Great Brewery with Tons of Space; Very Specific Niche
Overall: plainly put, the brewery, the brews, the space, the decor, and everything is amazing!! I'm going to pull everything I can to make sure that I am absolutely objective as possible and not let my bias seep in. The brewery is great. There is a ton of variety in what to choose. The service is friendly and prompt (and they are great on covid protocols), and you couldn't ask for a more serene setting with tons of space, outdoor furniture, and even a food truck that seemed to be rocking. To be fair and simple, it is just not my cup of tea to literally have 40-50 children romping about, ranging from a few weeks old up to teenagers. I personally have children and would be miserable if I brought them to a brewery. Again, this is a bias of mine and I admit it. Just not my thing, but not holding that against brewery. Not exactly sure why it's taboo to take kids to a bar, but breweries are completely OK, but again, my issue.
Brew: there is a ton of variety and cool names to boot. We got two flights and went with a mix of sours and more traditional. The beer is really good, but not necessarily the best we had while in Charlotte.
Space: there are a ton of patio tables, chairs, benches, firepits, etc. It really is a perfect space outside for enterainment purposes, and there is a lot of space inside as well. Cool art and deco abounds throughout, which adds a creative, unique element.
Scene: I know it helps business, but there were legit 40-50 kids all around. If this is your thing, then you have found your mecca. If it is not, it's impossible to tune out. To each their own, but having brews like I'm at a playground, I'll head to Dave & Busters. It is what it is, but I don't hold it against the...
Read moreFirst off, I’ve been to NoDa brewery for years and LOVED IT. But ever since COVID this place handled everything very strange. But tonight my husband and I brought my daughter and we had to sit inside, since it was pouring rain. My husband has said he has found it odd that every time he orders a beer either at the brewery or to-go beers they always ask for a tip through the glass, since they won’t let you touch the iPad, you have to actually tell the bartender how much you want tip. Weird, especially with to-go beers, no one is serving me from home the last time I checked. But tonight we went in, ordered beers, waited until the tables next to us left and let my 14 month old get out of her stroller and walk around. She immediately went a few steps in the wrong direction and I chased after her to get back to our table. Instantly, there was a host who came over to us and said “if you get up to walk around you need a mask on”. I chased my daughter for not even 5 steps and no one was anywhere near us. I got her back to the table immediately! I’m always aware to not put anyone else at risk and I felt he was calling me out for no reason at all and it made me feel very uncomfortable. It was too over the top and we were shocked he said that to us. Anyhow, don’t come here if you have little ones or else you might get the wrath form the guys up front seating people. We won’t be coming back for...
Read moreNoDa Coco Loco: NoDa Brewing was founded in 2011 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although I've become less of a beer guy since my college days, I have a hard time passing up trying certain craft beers (especially if they're free). Last summer when I attended a wedding in North Carolina our Airbnb had one of these stocked in the fridge. I couldn't bring myself to drink a porter in the sweltering NC heat, so I brought it back to WI to sip this winter. It's an American Porter that pours a deep mahogany color and has aromas of chocolate and roasted malts. It is supposed to have a taste that has a subtle bitterness from the chocolate but is balanced out by the sweet organic toasted coconut. Personally, I tasted mostly a heavy dark chocolate, but I don't have the most refined palate when it comes to beers. For those with more sophisticated tastes, it must be a good porter as Coco Loco was the recipient of the 2012 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal and the 2021 U.S. Open Beer Championship Bronze Medal. For me this was just okay, but I think porter lovers will really enjoy it, so I'll say it's Doughboy...
