BLOWN AWAY!!! Follow up visit: Cannot believe how light and crispy the crust, not chewy or tough, and the ingredients are spread to the limit. The tomatoes are small chunky cooked soft in olive oil lightly spread. The meats are lean and do not leach grease. No grease.
And extraordinarily flavorful cheese enhances the quality meat toppings of Sal's Special Pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onions and peppers. My recommendation!
Most restaurants are compromises of what great food should be. Usually I have some disappointments in The Best Restaurants.
But Sals Pizza is Stellar Pizza. Thin crust with a medium tan crispy bottom due to good use of Hobart HOT ovens.
We built a NY Style Pizza with Cheese Pepperoni and Sausage, onion, and garlic. We usually have 2 slices left from most pizzas but I could only eat two so the waiter boxed up the other half.
Unbelievable fresh Meat Flavor and fresh Vegetable combined with excellent cheese, sauce and spices.
We had a salad with house dressing while the baking was going on. After the pizza we found room for irrestible crunchy canolis.
I want to go back and try their Lasagna, and the Philly Steak, and Fra Diavlo Shrimp and Pasta, etc...
Look at the wonderful possibilities from the Menu attached all under the same roof. Many things I can cook, but it is nice to know I can check out extraordinary Italian cooking and service with value. A winning combination.
Sometimes I eat very late and most Charlotte restaurants close at 9PM. Sal is open until 10PM, and Friday and Saturday until 11PM. Bless you.
Sal keeps on cooking, but he is closed Monday's.
You can order from a variety of pizzas by the slice too. I appreciate that the goodies run to the edge of the thin crust with no "bones" to throw away.
Bet you can't eat the whole thing.
As follow up, we baked the other half of the pizza we took home and it was awesome. The meats were very special and so was the...
Read moreI can't believe we just found them! We are natives and not from East side but very much aware of great spots all over Charlotte. I found them on Charlotte Magazines, "22 pizzas you must try in Charlotte"(2019). I mean we narrowed it down to Sals and we were not disappointed!
We did 2 half n half pizzas! Bacon cheeseburger and Chicken Alfredo on one and Sales special and meat lovers on the other. These are robust and VERY hearty pizzas. I mean they are topping heavy and larger slices. One slice will make you question have you eaten only one its so filling. The taste made us both say why does this taste so good? It was Amazing!!!????
The biggest surprise stealer of the entire dinner were the WINGS! I ordered them because we saw a pic of some and decided they looked good enough to try. Holy Moly! They may be the best wings secretly unknown in Charlotte!! I mean it. Everyone gobbled the wings and repeatedly said wow, "I can't how great these wings are.' Fried exactly like I like skin crisp and sauced to still taste the fried crispy goodness. We bought the garlic parm onrs but these were easily the best garlic part wings Ive ever had.
Thank you for being a pinnacle and staple in Charlotte for so long. I hate we never knew you were there. Itbis worth rhe drive no matter what side you live on. We drove 20 mins in no traffic and I'll do it without thought. We will definitely support you and make sure others do too! We've already told and shared with a handful of people just...
Read moreI’m usually a fan of pizza. Having just moved to Charlotte I’ve been looking for new restaurants to make my favorites. Seeing the reviews for Sal’s Pizza on Yelp and other sites got me excited. After a large Classic Pepperoni I can sadly say I have never had to chew so much to eat a pizza in my life. The cheese and crust were worse than chewing gum that just never faded, the lack of sauce was made up for with the excessive amount of grease that no matter how many towels I grabbed to attempt to soak it up, it still just oozes from every slice. I had assumed that a Classic Pepperoni would be easy and “what could go wrong”, but I was the one who was wrong. I shouldn’t have to mention the service but I will, for the sake of a full review. When I walked in, the counter was open, there was no line so I just walked straight up and placed my order. Pretty normal. I waited 15 minutes and then waited 20 mins more and then I overheard behind the counter a man who I can only assume to be Sal asking what I was waiting for. The lady behind the counter then called out for them to make my pizza... only then, after having waited so long already. 25 minutes more and a kid who came in and placed an order at least 20 minutes after me gets their “half pepperoni” pizza and leaves. I can only say that the service was terrible, the pizza was terrible and as much as I hoped that it would live up to the hype, I am sadly very disappointed. Next time I know I can get better service from...
