Substrate — Restaurant in Charlotte

So excited this spot is now open in the neighborhood. They’ve got such a cool selection of natural wines, vermouths, amaros, etc - so many interesting cool things to try - in addition to great tasting traditional wines as well. Prices are super reasonable, with bottles and glasses for sale, and they have good beer and NA options as well.

Also, the vibes of the space are eclectic and fresh but also welcoming and unassuming. There’s seating that matches any mood - from tucked away cozy booths and tables, couches near the big sunny windows, and even two floors of outdoor patio space for enjoying a drink in the sun (in addition to several bar stools inside for hanging with their cool staff).

Took food over from Optimist the other night and enjoyed with a glass of wine on the patio. A hidden gem in a prime location (close to Optimist, Bird Pizza, Parkwood light rail...

A Chill Vibe with Great Wine

Ended up at Substrate after dinner on a Saturday night, and it was the perfect spot to wind down. It’s a relaxed wine bar with a live DJ, and before we knew it, the place was packed. Seating is first come, first served, but there are plenty of cozy nooks to settle into.

The wine selection is extensive, with a strong focus on natural wines—music to my ears! It’s the kind of place where you can sip, chat, and actually hear your friends over good music. Parking on the street can be tricky, but there’s a lot nearby if you don’t mind a short walk.

Was so excited to hear that Substrate opened! I love when new place is open in the neighborhood. I really liked to vibe in there. There’s a few different sections with all different different places to sit. I loved all of the selection of vermouth and wine. I ended up having a white vermouth that was outrageous. They had bottles for sale as well. The bartender was very accommodating and knowledgeable. They also had records for sale. Thought that was a great touch!! The bathrooms need to be renovated, but they make fun of that. They also have a nice outdoor space if you would like to bring your dog. Will absolutely go...
