Mad Greek of Charlotte — Restaurant in Charlotte

With deep regret I hate to say that this probably was one of the worst meals I have ever had being that I am Greek myself I brought my wife who is Greek as well to the restaurant because we heard so many good things first we got a spanakopita there was a very big problem with that because we were expecting a traditional spanakopita but we received a souffle of spinach with a little bit of fiddle on top and oil covered okay well unfortunately that was a bad decision on our part we thought so we tried the chicken souvlakia well after paying 1150 for one piece of bread cut four ways and no cucumber sauce and a very dry chicken skewer we upgraded to a salad The Village salad of course which should have been the best thing we could have had unfortunately the chunks of tomato were so big you could not even bite them there was so much water at the bottom of the salad itself that the dressing turned into water those three olives three pieces of feta 550 peppers some cucumber some very large chunks of bell pepper maybe 10 pieces of onions and I was upsetting oh I forgot to mention we ordered the Greek fries which were amazing the best part of the meal was the Greek fries which was simply french fries with feta cheese oregano and lemon but they tasted great and I was very happy unfortunately the two cups of coffee we got only the frappe for my wife was right I ordered a Fredo expresso that came out with cinnamon never heard of that and tasted Christmasy needless to say this has been one of the worst experiences I had at a Greek restaurant unbeknownst to me I attempted to speak to my waitress which was the only Greek in the building after looking in the kitchen and looking around I realized that the place was full of Hispanics and no Greeks weird yes it was no wonder they didn't hit the mark But when I questioned my bill due to the discrepancies of everything I still end up paying almost $50 for two people lunch unfortunately guys this one I would not recommend maybe I would give it another chance if someone could tell me is there ever a Greek night there the patio was nice and where we sat a group of gentlemen came and sat and had their morning coffee as well as well as the local talk of Greek men as usual the feeling of the καφενείο was definitely there unfortunately when you looked below the patio it was a mess craziness would have to be rated very low I'm sorry I did realize at the end of my meal that the sanitation grade was a 94 come on guys we're Greek we're proud of what we do εύχομαι να μην έχω θυμώσει κανένανε με αυτά που έχω πει όμως να καταλάβει ο κόσμος πώς καμιά φορά πρέπει να ακούσεις τα κακά να τα φτιάξεις εύχομαι όλα καλά και ευτυχισμένα και...

Came in to have lunch recently - my first time here. I'm very loyal to some restaurants in this area as I work nearby. I had high hopes for this place. I did read the reviews first, the bad ones particularly, just to see how they were responded to - that should have been a red flag for me. They praise the good ones, and most (not all) of the bad ones are combated. Any business should take the bad feedback and learn from it, not make the posters feel as if they are in the wrong. I don't always take reviews for face value, because people are people, but a business should always be professional in their responses. So here we go ----

When I arrived, there were 2 waitresses. A younger blonde and a dark haired older lady. The blonde was incredibly nice to me, so no complaints with her. Unfortunately, my main waitress was the older lady. She was not pleasant to deal with and made me feel like I was inconveniencing her because I had a few (not alot) of questions about menu items. Maybe it's her personality and maybe she's really quite nice, but first impressions are lasting, and my impression of her was she was bothered by her customers. At this point, I was just ready to leave. So I ordered something to just get me by until later that day - I ate then left.

The food I saw coming out of the kitchen looked pretty good, and the tzatziki sauce was incredible. It's unfortunate they allow bad wait staff to drive away good...

2 of 3 meals were good, cleanliness was lacking. First I should speak about cleanliness. We had 3 glasses of water, and all of them had debris floating in on the top of the water. It's hard to say if they need to change water/ice machine filters or just thoroughly clean the cups. I would guess that it was calcium build-up in the ice machine. Also, the men's bathroom was not very clean. I would like to say the 2 out of 3 meals were very good. The third meal though was not prepared adequately. First, it was served cold, it was at the very least sitting for 5 minutes. You could easily tell because the meat and fries were completely room temperature, and the other two meals with fries were steaming hot. It should be said that the waitress was very courteous throughout. The meal was sent back because it was cold. It came back with fresh fries but the meat looked like they had thrown in a pan and heated up. This made the meat very tough. I told the waitress and she brought out a different dish.

If the owner ever reads this my suggestion would be to do some maintenance on the restaurant and make sure that when a dish is finished cooking it is sent out right away.

Not horrible. But when it takes 35 minutes to get something edible to eat, and you can not drink the water, it is not...
