We really enjoyed our first visit to Great Harvest Bread Company. The owner was kind enough to make us four sandwiches just before closing. We got 3 of the classic sandwiches and 1 signature sandwich. We tried the curried tuna salad, ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, and roast beef. Two were on the Dakota bread, one on white, and one on honey wheat. I couldn't resist adding a half dozen of stuffing rolls to the order. I enjoyed both sandwiches I tried, half of the turkey and half of the tuna. Both of these were on the Dakota bread, which I'm a big fan of. We used to buy it at the city market along with a loaf of their cinnamon chip (highly recommended for french toast). I didn't get to try the ham and cheese or the roast beef. The guys ate those quickly and certainly didn't offer to share. Its going to be hard to pick which sandwich to get on our return visit, so many good options! One thing is for sure, I need to hurry and order stuffing rolls for Thanksgiving, along with a pumpkin roll for my husband. If cookies and pies entice you, there are plenty of those as well.

The owners (I think they were the owners, or just very passionate staff) are beyond kind and stuffed us with delicious samples while we waited for our sandwiches! They seem very passionate about their baking and were explaining the different options to us. The sandwiches were very healthy. I eat vegetarian so I opted to get one of their hot grilled cheese without turkey, so the person making my sandwich kindly added extra veggies since I wasn’t getting turkey. The baked goods are all very freshly made (you can see them making fresh breads). I highly recommend coming here, especially if you run on the Butterfly Greenway, this is a nice stop afterwards for food.

If you are anywhere near Charlottesville VA, you should stop at the Great Harvest Bread Co. They are so much more than a “bakery”. They actually mill their own flour and wheat on a mill stone (from wheat berries so it’s as fresh as it can possibly be ) so the consumer gets the cleanest and freshest products possible. The 100% whole grain oatmeal cookies are worth every cent. You won’t find better. The raspberry cream cheese scuffin is also a must. The Monkey bread is in a tin, you just pull off the plastic, put it in the oven and devour the results. If you don’t stop in here, you’ll regret it.

I could go on and on about how much I love this place but I’ll try to keep it short. The food - unparalleled. I’ve been to a lot of Great Harvest locations and always appreciate their quality and freshness, but for some reason this location is just be best. I haven’t tried a single thing on the menu that wasn’t incredible (and I’ve probably tried everything on their menu.) The staff - Aileen who runs the bakery makes you feel at home the second you walk through the door. She’s everything you’d want in a bakery owner and more. I would go just to see her! In all the craziness of COVID going to/bringing home delicious bread from baked goods has been the silver lining for me. It brings so much joy into my life. I’ve been doing curbside recently to be extra cautious (I’m really impressed by all the safety/cleaning measures they’ve been taking. Makes me feel extremely safe.) If you haven’t gone to THIS branch of Great Harvest, you are truly missing out on an...

I debated about writing this but after several weeks I decided to go ahead because this really upset me. I asked owner, Aileen, for small cocktail cheese wafers that I’d bought there twice previously. She said they’d never had that. I said, “But I did get it here.” On it went with her denying. I assured her I didn’t dream it up! I said it was so good I came back twice! I kept saying, calmly, said ..”But I did buy it here.” She then said, “That’s a lie.” Unbelievable! I immediately walked out. I was so upset I neglected to mention to her that the 2nd time I bought this item she was the one who found it for me on the table by window!! I’ve lived in Cville all my life and have never had a business owner call me a liar! I have never been treated so rudely in any business. Advice: do not interact with her or have any problem whatsoever. As you will see from these reviews she is...
