Its like they have not tasted their food. All of the dishes i have gotten have lacked an attention to detail or sense of caring about their final product. Examples.
The biscuits are small, dense, flavorless and would not pass as a biscuit in any state south of Virginia. I am from South Carolina and am looking for authentic biscuits in Charlottesville. I did not find them here.
The pulled pork is good and standard. The spicy sauce was in the regular sauce slot and i had already poured some on the meat before trying it and found it overly spicy. We also tried the brisket, which was just OK. Half of it was tender and half was chewy and barely edible. No smoke ring or visible crust on the brisket. Just OK.
The sauces were grainy and flavorless. We tried the gravy and it was like overly thickened brown water. The cheese sauce was like an orange version of the gravy. Id have taken melted velveeta over the home made cheese sauce.
Finally are the bread/buns that were charred to hell and tasted like it. I think there was a garlic butter on the bun, but it had been charred so much i only got the acrid taste of char on every bite.
The attention to detail is just not there. The restaurant idea is great and the space is lovely and has great potential. I want to love this place, but after trying it 2 separate times with the same result, i dont think i...
Read moreI heard/read nothing but good reviews about this spot and was really excited to try it. I went there on a Saturday night around 6:15-6:30, knowing what their hours were. Their open sign was turned on and visible from the outdoors. We went inside and the staff members had prematurely started closing down for the night. They all seemed visibly shocked/irritated about us being there, all because they started to close down early and had mentally checked out for the night. We ordered our food and sat down and then either the owner or manager came up to us and patronized us about how the restaurant closes at 7. This all happened with at least 20 minutes to burn until 7pm. Didn’t even thank us for coming by or properly greet us, just told us they closed at 7 and walked out the door to leave for the night. If he wasn’t gonna stick around, then why did it even matter? This made us feel unwelcome and like we were being forced out. The bbq itself was quite good and I wanna try more of their menu options, but feel reluctant about going back after this experience. A customer should never feel guilty or rushed out just because they show up less than an hour before the restaurant closes. Disappointing that this is my first impression of a spot that I was genuinely...
Read moreOur second time dining here, after a really good first experience. Solid brisket, but not superb, and the bun and sauce were just acceptable. But topping it off, a required 18% tip for ordering via... kiosk. Does the kiosk get to keep all of the tip? That just ain't right to push off staffing costs onto the customer. No warning until the end. Sadly, the last bit means we probably won't be back.
Edit after owner response: 1. the staff MADE me use the kiosk (18% of me makes me wonder why?), 2. to imply I may 'feel strongly about not tipping' is a red herring... and you're in a university town where inductive logic really does matter. I do, however, feel strongly that putting a kiosk into the mix negates a tip every, single time, 3. your business is food services - there is an inherent, unspoken risk to a consumer when staff feels unappreciated, hence the social pressure of an expected tip (that is now in the conversation). You should know this. 4. the compromise you mention only took into account 2 of the 3 parties affected. It doesn't sound like the sovereign customer is recognized even after my review, so we now definitely...
