McIntire Park appears to be the second largest recreational park in Charlottesville, second to Pen Park. It is a few recreational fields and playspaces (with a cool skate park announcing Fun is Free spelled out in steamers on a fence facing 250) and a memorial to Vietnam casualties. The rest is beautifully untouched natural space and trees with subtle navigation by mowed walks. You can get to several spaces where you can no longer tell where the major roads or any structural man-made developments are. I've seen people drive through the park, which I found odd, given that a walk is relatively easy from end to end. Stopping in the middle of it and laying down in the grass in summer was one of my most cherished early memories from my first days in Cville in July, 2016. Read moreMy dog absolutely loves it here. I used to throw her ball a lot here but she's getting quite old and cannot run anywhere near as much but she loves the quiet of it and so much to explore. Playground is lovely angs the whole park has good shade and is very little used. The skate board park is across parking lot and there's talk of moving it to where my dog and I go .. where the old washing pool used to be. I hope all these plans take a long time cause my Dog loves to run off her leash there, since it is safe and well fenced...

I went on a Saturday afternoon so it was quite busy but the overall environment was very relaxed and friendly. I also liked that they had very nice restrooms for being a public park.
