Hipsters and booger pie.
The pizza wasn't bad but the toppings were so inconsistent and scattered the bite to slice to pie ratio was a foreign idea where a Pollack painting showed much more balance than our edible circular gastronomic semi failure. Picked most of the cloves off and ate the whole pie, so try em out but don't cry.
Literally had 40+ whole roasted garlic cloves on a large pie with 20 kernal's of corn, 15 slices of pep and 10 clumps of sausage, and on and on to the unbalanced pie. The people at the end of 'The Bird Box' could make a more even spec topping pie while blindfolded so they don't die. Pizza didn't make us die, but made us sick (really), so was that a hipster pizza maker or Pickle Rick?
The worst was watching the big fella pizza maker wipe his nose on his wrist and arm, although gloved (that were never changed) while making the 'later' pies. Or the female who ran full bare hand raw dog pizza making the whole way while coughing into her inner elbow where the body naturally kills germs. We called em pizza with boogers and toppings and more. Hugo Habercore would have had been hospitalized... by those Bob's booger raw hand pie's.
Oh yeah, last but not least, the kids running round without any restraint, belonged to an employee and mom in the booth looking as unhappy as us with them...
Read moreI have eaten at this particular Lupi's many times over the last 20 years. I love the hole-in-the-wall hipster vibe, the music's generally solid, and the calzones are tremendous - both in size and taste.
I give this place my highest recommendation, but I offer some caveats to those who may not be familiar with Lupi's:
#1 Since this is a local chain with mostly local ingredients, expect a sticker shock if you order a lot of toppings. Local restaurants have taken a hit the last few years and have to keep raising prices to stay open. I've had to cut back tremendously on going out to eat. #2 If you're looking for a pizza to just accommodate everyone, there are some mid-level chains with more affordable options - which while not Lupi's - are still pretty solid. #3 The music can get loud in the evening. I love the selections. If you aren't into the types of music that have been played on college radio stations for decades, you may be unhappy. #4 All orders are made from scratch; be prepared to wait in the evenings. It's worth the wait.
Best bang for your buck - the calzones, which are generally large enough to feed two. Worst bang for your buck - the salads. Just a typical grocery store salad with a high price tag.
If you can handle all the caveats, enjoy the meal. Come hungry, they'll...
Read moreBeen to this location 4 times in 10 years and have never had a good customer service experience.
The first time we walked we had no clue where to order, waited up front for 5 minutes, sat down for five more, then I waited at the front again another 5. Tried to get an employees attention, and was just ignored. We walked out after 15 minutes.
The second time was OK. We ordered, we got our food, it didnt stand out.
The third time we waited over 50 minutes for a pizza and a personal lasagna with no other customers in the store. No explanation, no apology, just the employees standing and chatting in the kitchen.
The 4th time (today), we decide to cut out the risk of a bad experience by just ordering online. We put the order in for one pizza, it gives us a 30 minutes pick up window. We show up 35 minutes later, and they tell us that it won't be ready for another 15 minutes. Again, only two small groups and one other pickup waiting in the store, and 6 employees just standing and talking to each other.
If you want Lupi's, go downtown or go to Ooltewah. This location isn't...
