Careful judging off the 5* reviews. The restaurant gives a coupon as incentive for those leaving 5* reviews. I decided to wait and give an honest review of the restaurant. Great place to go if you can eat at least 3-4 rolls of sushi on your own; otherwise it’s more cost efficient to go to a Japanese restaurant to order sushi. I like that you can get all you can eat sushi and hibachi as well as soups and appetizers. I recommend the Sake on fire specialty roll and the steak hibachi. All the sushi rolls we ordered were fresh and tasty. It was not very busy, but the rolls came out quick and were all rolled tight. Is it the best I’ve had? no. But for the price it’s great. What I don’t like is the charge per lb or piece of sushi not eaten, if you want to take it home it also costs extra. I can see applying this charge to patrons that order 2-3 rolls and eat one to two pieces off each; but for those who order one roll and have one to two pieces left and making an effort to eat all they ordered then they should not be charged. Also I didn’t like was the restaurant has the same feel as the Volcano Korean grill since it’s co-owned by them but just feels really thrown together using the grill tables and an attempt to hide the grills. I also feel that they could make this a more intimate setting by removing the big screens, and dimming the lights. Just feels kinda awkward like a sports bar setting. Also don’t like the refill stations in the aisle ways, refill stations should be behind the bar or in the kitchen. Also, take note adult prices are everyone over 10 years old. There are signs offering kids eat free, not sure if this only applies to kids menu options or what, but change the kid age to 12 and under. The service was good and our server was very helpful and attentive. We did have issues receiving our some orders from the kitchen, not his fault but he was constantly having to check on the order status. I think they would benefit my utilizing the hosts to refill drinks and allowing the servers to serve and place/follow up on the food orders. Final thought, if you are going to eat sushi and are not picky with options this is your place. I will probably return at a later date but only with other adults who can eat their fair share of sushi.

I have eaten this style of sushi buffet a couple times before and will use my previous experience to compare this time to. First the restaurant had been converted but was very clean and contemporary with lots of seating. Our waitress was nice and kept retuning frequently to check on us. The menu was a lot smaller than the others we had visited and deserts and sashimi was an up charge if chosen. Half rolls were not an options and seemed to be strict about the rules of the buffet and charges for anything ordered and not eaten. Now to the sushi. Presentation was wonderful , some of the best I’ve seen during my visits to sushi bars. The hand roll I tried was bland my wife’s looked better but over all lacked luster in comparison to others we have had. The rolls averaged 8 pieces each which was a lot and limited the different rolls able to try. I did manage 4 rolls and two hand rolls. Overall the sushi had a good taste but three of them had very similar taste and did not wow. The one roll that had a different flavor still incorporated many of the same ingredients as the others. I think for the price and the amount that you could possibly eat that it is well worth the money. I think the quality is there just not a big flavor variation. Only giving 3 stars due to how long it took to get the first round, not haveing the option for half rolls so more varieties could be tried , and the lack of variation in flavor in the rolls I tried.

At Sake Roll & Grill, my dining experience was a delightful journey through various Japanese delights. The seaweed salad and miso soup kicked off the meal on a refreshing note, setting the stage for what was to come. The chicken hibachi and gyoza showcased the mastery of the kitchen, each bite bursting with flavors that left a lasting impression. The red snapper and tuna nigiri were a testament to the freshness of the ingredients, highlighting the restaurant's commitment to quality. The Snow White roll was a standout, combining different elements harmoniously. While there was a bit of a wait initially, the subsequent prompt and well-timed delivery of dishes made up for it. The diverse array of dishes allowed for a varied and satisfying dining experience. The ambiance at Sake Roll & Grill added to the overall enjoyment. The abundance of TVs and a giant wall screen provided entertainment, while the well-lit space and elevator-style music created a pleasant atmosphere. The waitstaff's attentiveness and the culinary excellence make this spot a must-visit for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts.

We’ve been to Sake a few times and have had a small issue or another each time but haven’t felt the need to say anything until today. The food has always been better than the service…There were 6 people in our party and we came in for the lunch all you can eat and happy hour. Our servers were Tab and Julio (Tab did a good job for what it’s worth). We placed our first round food orders and received everything we ordered except one sushi roll - “The Dinosaur.” I politely asked the waiter Julio if the roll was coming, he replied “all the food you ordered would have came out already.” So we informed him that we had ordered a roll that never showed up. He then proceeded to say that we were “attacking” him and that it wasn’t possible for him to make any mistakes with ordering because he only plugs into the computer what the customer orders. Must be pretty great to be perfect and never make mistakes haha 🙄😂 So after waiting for that Dinosaur roll, a “Crazy Roll” comes out. We informed Julio that we never ordered a Crazy Roll. He then proceeded to argue with us and tell us that he would go and dig through the trash to find the order form that had a Crazy Roll on it. We told him again that no one at our table had ordered a Crazy Roll, but again directed him to the Dinosaur Roll that we actually ordered. Julio came back several minutes later with a completely blank order form with a little check mark next to a Crazy Roll. Again, we never ordered a Crazy Roll. The form did not come from our table - guessing he filled it out his self. But he leaves and so we finally get the Dinosaur Roll a while later and after eating decided to grab some $1 happy hour beers. We ordered one beer each. After our first round, one of the ppl at our table wanted to order a second round for every one. But when we tried to order a second beer with Julio, he gave us some ridiculous rhetoric about how his manager told him that we were only allowed to order ONE happy hour round and that it was illegal for him to serve us a second drink!! Most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard 😂😂 Certainly never in my 10+ years of Food and Beverage Hospitality across multiple establishments and states have I EVER heard of such nonsense. We were lied to and treated very poorly by Julio and Sake as a whole. And Julio was also seen driving out of the parking lot before we even got into our cars to leave. Musta been ready to get off work with a BAD attitude. Honest to goodness one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Will certainly not be back again. Julio and Sake Roll + Grill you were so rude and unprofessional, and have lost several paying customers with your terrible customer service and attitudes. Do better or go...

This will be a long review, so if you've got a short attention span, this one ain't for you lol. The short and sweet is that the place has potential if it can work out the kinks. Location is a bummer (Brainerd traffic is Brainerd traffic) but that's not something they can change.

I'm gonna start with the bad so I can end on a positive note. I've been here twice and had night and day service from the same servers. The first time was awesome, second time, they seemed unorganized.

Second trip, our table was missing items on orders and overheard that tables near us were missing items as well. Our tables noticed the orders piling up at the counter and we heard the bell being rang to signify they were ready, but the servers were busy talking. There were also about 4 different faces that stopped at the table which sounds great at first but orders/requests seemed to be lost in transit so you'd have to repeat it a few times before it got out to you. Lack of communication there. Some items we just didn't get and didn't bother to try again, just asked for the check. I'm sure this is partly because the place is still fairly new so I didn't go hard on the rating. Hopefully they train this out of their staff.

Now for the good! This spots food is AMAZING. We used to go to sushi city all the time (Will refer to them as SC from here on out). SC seems to have faster and better service but I think it's because they've been established longer.

SR&G's food seems to be WAY above SC's in quality and taste. SR&G's hibachi is fantastic. It has more seasoning that SC's and doesn't seem like it's pre-made. It's good enough to rival other hibachi places like Hana (Gunbarrel) and Soho (Hixson) which says A LOT considering it's NOT their bread and butter. Remember, Sake Roll & Grill is a sushi place that offers hibachi NOT a hibachi place that offers sushi. Big difference. Kudos to the chefs in the kitchen.

I also love that they have more specialty rolls available than SC, and it seems they put more ingredients, effort, and seasoning in their apps and sides as well. SC's Kani salad (crab salad) is just the meat and a sauce. SR&G's had that as well as cucumber and masago (salty fish eggs) that made for a great presentation and flavor combo. The miso soup is also better and more intense despite not having the tofu like SC does.

If you like sushi check this place out. If you have people who've never had sushi, CHECK THIS PLACE OUT. That way if they don't like it, they can at least fall back on some great hibachi (I recommend the chicken hibachi). Don't take my word for it, they're sitting at a 4.9 right now...

Husband and I went for date night yesterday and were less than disappointed, we got crab rangoons and they were fully empty, the hibachi was decent but I got vegetables on my plate which I didn’t order and then was charged extra on the ticket for not eating them. We got one thing of sushi each and when we mentioned that they weren’t good, so we wouldn’t be finishing them ( mine was tough and dry and his had tasted like the siracha went bad) the waitress said “well you do know you still have to pay for them” we weren’t asking for a discount but we also didn’t realize we were going to be charged an extra dollar per each piece of sushi that was left on the plate so we ended up paying $10 extra dollars on that alone. And no one mentions that when you come to sit down and eat. We had high hopes but it just didn’t hit the mark.

EDIT: the management team replied with a bullcrap excuse but I’d like to clarify. We brought up that the food simply tasted like it had gone bad and nothing was done about it we were just told we still had to pay for it. No offer to remake it etc. I DID NOT order the hibachi with vegetables I ordered the rice with chicken and shrimp and I was charged an extra 5.99 for the vegetables I didn’t order. What a scam. The “front” of the menus were face down on the table to the menu ordering side there for we didn’t turn it over to read it. Nor did a waitress tell us to read the front or did she mention the policy. On another note I ordered a drink off the drink menu and no prices on there but the drink was $15. I am a server at a fine dining restaurant and our high end cocktails aren’t even more than $12. My ID also was not checked and while this may not be a big deal I am only just now 21. And I look young my id was on the table however it is not horizontal and it has a red border around the face that says “Not 21 until 2/17/04” it was not even glanced at or picked up. I wonder if the servers have a servsafe certificate or Tn liquor license. An order that should’ve costed maybe $50 ended up being $80 and some change. For 2 people. Everything screams scam. Good atmosphere. But the managers need to work on guest satisfaction and hospitality. When something is wrong with the food, a remake, a discount, an offer of something different and an APOLOGY is what should...
