Kung Fu Tea In Cherry Hill Sunday around 5 pm The legend of poor service and Racism
What can I say about the king Fu Tea in cherry hill..well I was excited to see this place after picking up fish from the local market . But my excitement was immediately karate chopped by this young short curly haired woman (with glasses) that seemed very tired and angry. So I tried greeting her with a smile.
This was my first time here and looking at the big location I thought this was going to be good-
I went up to the register where I met the short curly haired woman with glasses. I stared at the menu and said .. this is my first time here!!! And smiled . She said nothing and starred at me. I was waiting for some sort of response - but there was nothing . I could not figure out what I wanted so I simply stepped aside to let another customer order. It was about one min of awkward silence.
When the other customer behind us walked up to order — the customer said I never been here before - what is popular.
The curly haired woman with glasses then pulled out a card and told the lovely lady. This is our most popular drinks..
I was very shocked .. because my wife and I would’ve loved to have known that there were popular items. If the curly haired woman would have just made some sort of effort - we would had a better customer service experience than receiving the Clint Eastwood stare down.
After she helped the customer … it was our turn again but this time I calmly gave her feedback. Because she made me feel unwanted. I then told her for a better customer service experience it would have been nice to have told us about the popular items .
Then like a villain in a Kung Fu movie this tall curly haired man ( i’m assuming he was the supervisor) popped up and started listening. So I turned to him and explained the experience. Again calmly and respectfully !! I explained again, that I would have loved to have known about the popular items- and .. he said in a very sassy way , “we don’t make a commission here!!”
Now my Kung Fu is very strong .. I didn’t not let that comment get to me . As a Black man, I have to navigate spaces like these every day. I am shocked that these two white employees working at this Boba restaurant made me and my wife feel not welcome.
It’s boba .. everyone is supposed to like boba
So I ordered my drink anyway .. my wife decided she didn’t want anything based on the service rendered..
No As the tall curly haired man handed me my drink. I explained to him - (calmly and gracefully) that his comment m — “that we don’t make commission here.” Was not empathetic to the situation- and based on the other interactions I observed.. the interactions that were toward me and my wife .. were based it’s based on the color of my skin . He turned away from me and rolled his eyes. And that’s when I had to share my experience with the wider audience, and I will be sending this letter to corporate office.
I threw the boba in the trash.. it tasted of mediocrity and racism.
Boba is black and delicious just like me. Boba comes in different colors and flavors just like all of us. But this location treats their black customers differently. I will not be...
Read moreI came upon this place online. People were talking about it and comparing the fried chicken and chicken sandwich to the likes of Popeyes. Upon entering, I was taken back by the size of the place. It's huge! The menu was not as huge but had a good selection of fried chicken, wings, chicken sandwiches, and some specialties. We ordered some of the basics. The spicy wings were good. Not overly spicy, but crunchy good. The mashed potatoes were skin on fresh taters, with a generic brown gravy...not bad. The kwa kwa boa was interesting. I thought it was going to be much crunchier than it was. So I was sad. It tasted ok. The chicken sandwich was almost identical to the spicy chicken at Popeyes. It was very big, crunchy, and tasty. They also serve Kung Fu Tea...bubble tea. I'm not a big fan of having stuff float around in my drink, but when in Rome.....I had the peach oolong which actually was very good. My only real complaint is all of their dipping sauces were either Kens, or Sweet Baby Rays except 2. Those 2 fresh sauces were great! The mango habanero and the honey soy garlic. The honey soy garlic was really good. Service was fine, food was hot, and a nice change from the other fast food chicken...
Read moreAs many people mentioned - the bubble tea/milk teas here are EXCELLENT and the majority of the reason I didn't give this place just one star.
That and the fact that occassionally I'll get someone at the register who is nice and helpful when I'm clearly having some issues got it up to three stars.
However.
Almost every time I've been here, only two of the advertises sauces are available.
Many of the items on the menu are unavailable, as well.
And almost as often as I get someone nice at the register, I've gotten someone who clearly couldn't spare the time of day for me.
The noise behind the register often makes it difficult to communicate when ordering, as well, but that part I'm not holding against the rating as that rarely can be changed - ventilation systems are often loud and hard to work around - but I'm mentioning it here just in case there IS something someone can do.
And just for the record - the times I've come in are on weekends, often saturdays, in the middle of the day where there should be zero reason to not have menu items or sauces available. It's a shame because the chicken, fries, etc... are usually...
