AJ Gator's Sports Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Chesapeake

The food was decent, but it's priced way too high. We had $14 and $15 burgers. They were obviously handmade patties, good quality and cooked correctly to order, but not $14-15 good, nor does the sports bar ambiance make you think they'd serve $15 burgers. Our waitress was not very attentive, awkwardly sat down at our table to take our order, didn't let me know I had other options for my side than the fries or chips listed, never offered to refill our drinks, and when we were done eating (and my toddler was getting antsy), she disappeared. She eventually walked by and asked if we needed a box for leftovers. I said two boxes, please, thinking she'd bring them and the check. She disappeared again, and when she finally came back, she had one box and no check. By the time we left, my toddler was shrieking and ready to run laps because he'd been sitting in the high chair for so long. I would give them another try and hope that it was just an off day for that waitress or that the other servers are more professional, but even when the check came and the kids meals had been taken off (I did not complain, so the waitress did that on her own), the check was $42 after tax and 20% tip for two burgers and one soda. It was definitely not worth that price. It would have easily been over $60 with another drink and without the kids...

As soon as we stepped out of the car we knew we made the right choice, the incredible smell coming from the restaurant already had our mouths watering. The food was incredible, some of the best french fries I have ever had. The perfect ratio of crispy on the outside and perfectly yummy on the inside! And as great as all the food was the thing that stood out the most was our incredible waitress. She offered some of the best service we have ever received including from high end 5* restaurants. She was polite and personable and on top of everything. Even if the food was terrible I believe we would come back simply to have her as a waitress again. I wanted to take my daughter for a mommy/daughter dinner. Courtney who was our waitress this afternoon was amazing. She did not know their flat top was down which took out half the menu. She immediately sprang into action.

Side note: my daughter has an extreme allergy which she attends treatments once every two weeks. So we treat her with going out to eat the night before. When they have a full menu, this location is where we frequent.

Courtney was not only polite but really apologetic about the situation and made a frustrating situation into one that continues to make me a loyal customer. They have great food and great service. That was evident today.
