We decided to try Ang’s Sushi Bistro near home for the first time today. We went for AYCE Sushi Lunch, and the sizes of the rolls were good, except the portion of fish in the rolls we ordered were extremely SMALL, almost non-existent. The rolls mostly contained rice, avocados and cucumber, but barely any fish. How can you justify paying for that? This place is also more pricey compared to the other AYCE sushi places in the area.
After communicating the issue to the waitress, she boldly told us that it’s because it’s all-you-can-eat, and she said that if we would have ordered from the regular menu it would be different (I actually have a recording of her saying this). The sushi chef even came over to listen, and he even added that, “it’s because all-you-can-eat is like that.” Then, they proceeded to walk away while speaking loudly in their language about the situation. They didn’t care at all that we were unhappy that there was barely any fish in the rolls. She even tried to argue, “if you go to other sushi restaurants, it’s the same.” That’s not true because we’ve been to plenty of our local 757 sushi spots with QUALITY AYCE sushi, and we have never been treated this way. Shouldn’t sushi be made with the exact same portions regardless of the menu? Why should the fish-to-rice ratio be different if it’s the SAME roll as what’s on the regular menu?
My boyfriend refused to eat the excessive amount of rice on his rolls (because it was actually a ridiculous amount of rice), so the waitress made sure to add $5 extra onto the check for “wasting”. If anything, we wasted money on what we were hoping would be a good experience and good sushi. Instead, we received the opposite, including horrible customer service with staff who argue instead of listening. At that point, we just wanted to get out and never return again. It was just a huge disappointment.
UPDATE
The owner has just responded to this review: “Response from the owner 19 minutes ago You also know that your boyfriend ordered 9 sushi rolls. When you order for the second time, our waiter reminds you that you will be charged for wasting food. When you ordered 4 sushi rolls for the first time, you eat them all. there is nothing. Any comments, I continue to order 5 rolls. We did the same thing. You can't do it. It is true that few people can finish the 9 rolls. After that,You have many excuses to tell us. please. No one is a fool. I don’t want to argue with people like you. I just want everyone to know what’s going on. If I don’t do well enough, why do you order 5 more after eating 4 rolls? I believe it is rare. One can finish 9 rolls at a time. I also thank you not to come again, I don’t like people who waste food”

OK?! You’re completely misunderstanding the point that you, as a business, are RIPPING PEOPLE OFF by over-charging for sushi that has BARELY ANY FISH. We ordered rolls to get more protein, NOT a load of carbs in the form of rice. We paid your silly $5 upcharge even though you didn’t deserve it. You didn’t offer to at least re-make the sushi with a decent portion of fish inside or at least apologize for being rude to customers. It’s not that we COULDN’T eat the rice. It’s the fact that we didn’t WANT to eat just rice. Otherwise, we would have just ordered a BOWL OF RICE! Lol. So if there’s any fool here, it’s whoever wrote that response. You’ve repeatedly admitted to making sushi with an extremely small amount of fish, and it’s not worth paying for. You “don’t like people who waste food”, but you wasted all that rice and call it “sushi”. If you didn’t do well enough the first time, why didn’t you make it better after we expressed our concern? Nobody wants to pay $14.99 just to eat rice, when anyone can just do that at home. We’re happy to never come back because we don’t like businesses that rip people off and make customers feel stupid about it. THAT’S what’s going on, just so...
Read moreThis review was from 2018. I recently edited to take out pictures of my daughter’s face since it was receiving a lot of views. Didn’t realize it would change the date. Sorry about that. The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. I loved the interior design, it made it seem so fancy. Perfect for an inexpensive date night. There were very few people there for a Saturday afternoon, but it was lovely being in such a quiet restaurant while we enjoyed our dinner. Our waitress was so attentive at first. She gave our daughter her back pillow so she wouldn’t ended up hurting herself. And she took our order maybe 8 minutes after we arrived, once we decided on what we wanted. She suggested us their Early Bird special, which was only $10 a person! Definitely something to consider when you come and visit here. It’s from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. About two more customers came in and placed their orders at the same time as us. We ended up waiting a whole hour and 20 minutes for our food. I understood that they were a little short staffed though. She brought us our miso soups within 5 minutes of ordering, but everything else didn’t come until later. The waitress seemed to work both the bar and kitchen, plating everyone’s food as the chef would finish. I just wish she was a little more apologetic. She would barely look at us and only muttered that our food would be out soon, when it had been 45 minutes. :/ But once the food came, it was absolutely delicious. We had the volcano and golden dream rolls. The restaurant does have booster and high chairs for toddlers, but there was no baby changing station in the bathroom. So be mindful of that if you plan on taking your little ones. I would have loved to have given them 5 stars for the food alone, but the wait time and the lack of apology had thrown us off. It’s honestly a great place to go eat. And I’m sure if they had more people on staff, it wouldn’t have been as...
Read moreThe sushi was decent, however, the service leaves much to be desired. Granted the host/waitress was working the floor alone, there were only 3 tables seated for a total of 11 when I arrived, one table of 2 had already eaten. The waitress took our orders immediately but never brought me water, never brought myself and my guest napkins, nor appetizer dishes. My sapporo beer exploded when I opened it and everyone at the table had to use their napkins to help clean up the mess, where was the waitress? On two occasions she failed to bring anything to help clean up the obviously shaken beer and when we asked for more napkins we received 3, for 5 guests. The older woman working the floor, when we were ordering, commented about the heavier guest seated across the room, "better order before he does because he's going to order a lot of food," really?? Another couple came in and waited at the door for 5 minutes before the waitress addressed them; the waitresses body language was saying go away and after overhearing their short conversation I will say that the only older female waitress working the floor needs a reality check. Kissing feet of some guests while treating others like an inconvenience is a quick way to lose business. I for one will never go back and I recommend everyone else that had not been, take my experience as a grain of salt but be mindful of this waitresses attitude problem. The sushi was great but the service was terrible, I rate 2 stars because of the...
