4 went on Saturday night, spent a lot of money and had a terrible experience
Our waiter was nice, but he clearly was green as he was unable to answer many basic questions like How much is the seafood tower? What beer do you have on tap? There was a 3rd sorbet flavor, but we never got the answer because when he said he couldn't remember...he never came back with the answer.
Caesar salad was way overdressed, flat bread with shaved pears, must have been shaved beyond thin as there was hardly any pear flavor and the French onion soup was lacking...well onions... Steaks came and I was a bit confused because it says nothing on the menu about sauces and that you had to order them separately, standard for a steakhouse, but the ones we ordered came with sauces...no explanation as to what they were...and we had ordered a side of the bone marrow truffle butter because we weren't expecting sauces - skip this if you like truffle...zero truffle taste, all bone marrow
Guess we were supposed to eat Medieval Times style because no steak knives, no waiter, I asked the food runner....about 8 minutes later still no steak knives, had to flag down another waitress who was busy chit chatting with other wait staff and bussers....very common theme here... Went to the ladies room at one point...gaggle of wait staff hanging in the back talking.. in the room we were seated they collected in the corner chit chatting and at the front desk...you guessed it, lots of doing nothing.. Finally got the knives, food was ok. Some woman came around and asked how everything was, have no idea her name or her role. Told her about the truffle less truffle butter and she said she would take it off the bill, thank you, didn't apologize, but said we should have said something sooner, I would have loved to have asked about the truffle, but we lost our waiter quite a bit and no one seemed to want to help each other...Have I found the hunger games of Steakhouses?
There we sat with empty glasses and dirty dishes for a good 15 minutes....all while the staff was in the corner...you guessed it...having a chat....they were all so engrossed I couldn't get anyone's attention I had to get up and go to the front desk...so sorry to interrupt your conversations, as 3 employees were having a jolly good time, but we want to order dessert, our table hasn't been cleared and we haven't seen our waiter in awhile. A nice gentleman came back with me and started to help and the mystery lady appeared again asking if everything was ok. Still have no idea who she is... I said nope, you are not even busy, your entire staff is doing nothing in various parts of the restaurant and we would like to order dessert and have our table cleaned off. I told her while our waiter was very nice the service here was terrible. She didn't apologize, didn't offer coffee on her, instead said our waiter had only been there for 3 days....well that sounds like a you problem because your staff isn't helping the poor kid and he clearly needs more training. DO NOT order a latte...$5.50 and they serve it in an espresso sized cup! not even a regular sized coffee cup! Shame because the coffee is really good, but I have never in my life seen a latte so small...assuming the cappuccinos are served the same way? Absolute rip off on this. Oh and the best was when we left, there were 2 people at the front desk......can you guess what they were doing? Did not even bother to say Thank you or have a good night....
Final Thoughts: If this was a Chili's or a TGI Fridays...no sweat. If they were slammed and short handed...totally understand... I think they are trying to be a high end steakhouse....the prices certainly say that...but part of the high end steakhouse experience is the service and I have had better service at Chili's, the restaurant was half empty and there was plenty of staff.
They need to bring in a strong manager, or someone at least versed in top notch customer service and maybe...but based on the food and the service, for the price, we will for sure not be back, nor will...
Read morePoor service and safety: we only had 2 channels on the TV in the room VH1 and 14, And when we called the front desk for Assistance, The response from the staff was “HDMI 2” & that was no help; So we called the front desk Again and there was “no answer” It was only 8:30PM and the Front desk was supposed to Be open until 10PM…so I went Down to the front desk with the 2 Remote controls from the TV, To try to learn how to use them, And it was “closed”and the entire Hotel staff went home at 8:30. That’s when things got stranger. As I walked up the stairs I noticed That the self locking door for the Stairwell was left open After the Staff went home; I also noticed A dent in the door next to our door, and a dent in our door as Well. So we (me and my wife) Watched a movie on channel 14 Which was not terrible; lots of Commercials, as usual…then We got ready to retire after The movie and as we were in Twilight sleep mode there was A “boom” from the other room Of the suite; I thought that either The TV fell off the wall or it was a Ghost in this historical hotel… Or someone kicked in the door And we were going to die… Hopefully it was “just a ghost” And so we went to sleep …. We’re old… When I got up in the morning I went into the other room to see What the “boom” in the night was…the TV was still on the wall And the front door was still locked and intact…. My wife opened the closet to get Her sweater and found that inside The closet there was a makeshift “ door”that Fell “into” our closet and struck The opposite wall and lay there and that’s what The “boom” in the night was; The door was hinged at the Bottom like a “Murphy bed” With 2 turning locks on either side about waist level, so, if You opened the turning locks It still would not open like the “Normal” door that it appeared To be. When I looked into the space Behind that door I saw a huge Crawl space that someone could Actually Stand up in and also inside that Space there was a vent cover Plate about 24 x 24 inches, And, a light was on in the room Behind that vent…we thought, “This is some BS” and we packed up Quickly, made our exit, and never...
Read moreThis is a place that you have to visit. This is the small town, neighborhood tavern with a bunch of regulars that all get to know each other. It is likely that if you visit often, the staff greets you like Norm on Cheers. You won't be sitting around long before someone introduces themselves and strikes up a friendly conversation. Definitely a family-friendly place for dinner and entertainment. Let's talk about the food. The chefs do a great job with much better-than-average kitchen creations and specials. The ribs are outstanding. On the lighter side, the pizza is good, the deep-dish is better, in my opinion. And this is one place where a sausage roll is still made correctly!! Now on to the entertainment. This place gets some of the best local cover bands in the area, and these groups draw a great supportive fan base. The client base here is mostly local, friendly, responsible and fun people. Now the Inn... There are a number of exceptional rooms and suites available. I personally stayed in one this past New Year's Eve. The rooms are richly decorated and exceptionally clean. As a local businessman serving people who often need overnight accommodations, I often recommend the Publick House. My clients have been very pleased. Other clients require private banquet rooms for special events, and have been equally impressed here. A large number of the staff has been here for a long time. I have gotten to know most on a first name basis. Great conversations and laughs are shared, making me feel more like family than a customer. If you have never been here, I encourage you to stop in. If you haven't been here in a while, you should visit again. If you have been here recently, good for you. Bring some...
