Sal's Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Chesterton

Tried calling to order, kept getting sent to voicemail. That should have been my indication ordering food from here was a bad idea. Used the website to order food. Was very simple with my order. No crazy substitutions or removal of items from any dish. Got there, waited about 8 minutes before anyone one of the 5-6 people walking around even attempted to help me. The one girl who did help asked “what do you need” I told her I was here for an online order. She didn’t even reply just walked away. About another 15 minutes go by and my food is brought to me. (I wasn’t early for my pick up time) I look just to make sure the salsa and cheese dip I paid extra for are there. The cheese dip was in the correct 8oz bowl, but the salsa was in a small 2oz cup so I asked if I could have the 8oz that I paid for. I was met with “that’s what you paid for” and pointed to the cheese dip. So I had to pull up my ticket on my phone and show her I also paid for an 8oz salsa. Well that took another 5 minutes before she was able to bring it to me. And while she was handing it to me a man came to me with a paper ticket pointing at my two charges for the dips I paid for and said here this shows what you paid for. I had to then again explain that yes I paid for them, so I feel I should get what I paid for. He handed me the ticket and said ok. I was over it at this point and left. Got home and I was missing the shells for the fajitas, missing the toppings for the deluxe burrito, the rice side for my fajitas was not fully cooked, the cheese dip I paid for was watered down and curdled, it smelled expired, and the chips were extremely old with a rubber texture. I tried to call the restaurant 15x when I unpacked all of this and no one answered. I’m staying over 25min away and didn’t want to drive all the way back to deal with them again. My order: Chicken fajitas- extra shredded lettuce no beans 2 beef and cheese tacos Deluxe burrito 8oz cheese dip 8oz salsa

Omg this place... 😡😡 First off, what Mexican restaurant doesnt have Horchata or pickled jalapenos? That should have been my first sign. My drink was supposed to have squirt and tequila and fresh fruit and a tajin rim. It was margarita mix and a moldy lime with tajin rim.. I specifically order my kids stuff off the kids menu that didnt come with beans cuz my one son and i are both allergic (I even said this to the waitress) and they slathered all of it in beans. My mom ordered a taco salad without the shell, they brought her a literal bowl of beans with lettuce on top and some meat. A waiter himself said he wouldnt eat that cuz it looked disgusting and soggy and actually brought her a new one he said he haf to make himself. There was no flavor to my steak or shrimp or even my arroz. I'm a chef, you could have added some lime and seasonings to it, come on... This isn't authentic Mexican by a long shot and to top it all off, guess who just got out of Franciscan e.r? You guessed it. Me. Why? Cuz my throat was swelling to close or anaphylactic shock.. Bet its cuz im allergic to beans..... and they never really remade my stuff that was smothered it in, they just "wiped it off". Really Debating about calling and asking for our whole $100 check back since I just had to pay 250 for an e.r stay to have steroid injections cuz...

Always great food and service. A year ago we gave this place a great review. After last night, we probably won't be back. Ordered margaritas before we looked at the menu, the waiter came back to take our order 5 mins later, no margaritas, we ordered our food, waited 20 minutes for food to arrive, waiter brought food, still no margaritas. We asked where our drinks were as we've been here over half an hour now. He brought the worst watered down margarita we've ever had. Taste like diluted mixer on the rocks. We complained this doesn't even taste like a margarita and has no Tequila, the waiter leaves about 10 minutes and comes back with a shot of tequila saying nobody's complained about the margaritas and they've been serving them all day. He poured a shot in the glass and it made it worst, now diluted mixer with tequila on the rocks. My wife just left it, $13 drink she wouldn't drink and she loves margaritas. Food portions half the size they were a year ago. $85 for two dinners and two drinks after tip and we left so...
