This place has it all: good food, a combative owner, and hidden fees dramatically raising the cost of your bill! Well, I guess 2/3rds of those things aren't great and drove me to write this review. A 15% Quality of Life surcharge is added to all checks (even take-out) despite any posting of this surcharge not mentioning the percentage that will be added. The restaurant then has the audacity to have a default tip percentage in the 20s% on their POS system (despite being a counter service restaurant) while not verbally mentioning the surcharge so watch out or you'll inadvertently add 35%+ on the bill! I'm all for supporting servers and livable wages, but lack of transparency is not the way to do it.
When other reviewers have called out these clearly extremely deliberate and shady practices, the owner responds as if he is the victim and accuses other reviewers of "weaponizing" review platforms. If warning other potential customers of the shady business practices they are about to encounter I will certainly continue to "weaponize" these platforms for so other consumers are well-informed. This place just needs to be transparent and raise the menu prices to their true costs.
Buyer Beware: Hidden fees and combative owner come along with your food...
Read moreI went to this place with a friend and was expecting the food to be really good because they were so busy for a little hole in the wall place. First, when I ordered, they were completely out of the wraps so I had to have my chicken shwarma on bread. No big deal, I was ok with that. Also ordered fries and a diet Pepsi. They told me $14 and some change, and I paid with credit card. We waited close to 25 minutes for our food. Finally, our food came up. My sandwich was missing the garlic sauce, but the guy gave me a side of it. That was nice, but I have to say the sauce wasn't very tasty, and the chicken was bland. The fries were the only thing that were actually good. Fast forward to getting home, my husband received an email with my receipt and come to find out the total was actually 16.90! They added some 15% "quality of life" charge. I dont know if this is some covid related thing, but at least tell me up front that it is going to be added! I never even got a receipt in the restaurant, so this seems super shady to me. Anyone not inspecting their emailed receipt would never even know they got charged this. Suffice to say, I definitely won't be...
Read moreWe were in the area on a Sunday afternoon and wanted some Mediterranean/middle eastern food. It’s a cute little counter service restaurant with seating that was clean and tastefully designed. You order food up front and then pick it up at the counter. It was our first time there and had looked at the menu before we got there. There was supposed to be brunch/breakfast and dinner menus on Sunday’s but only the brunch menu was displayed. We were a little confused and asked the cashier/cook if that was the only menu and she impatiently said yes in a rude and incredulous tone and gave us a condescending look. We were the only customers there and asked one question so we didn’t understand the attitude. We got the steak shawarma wraps which tasted good but pretty average and overpriced at $15 each. While eating, I checked their online pick-up menu and it had the dinner menu, which made me more annoyed at the rude employee. I wouldn’t come back here honestly and would rather go to the many other Mediterranean/middle eastern restaurants in Chicago with better food at the same...
