Snickers Bar & Grill isn't just a bar; it's a living time capsule in the heart of River North, part dive bar, part diner, and a total local legend. The moment you step inside, your senses are greeted by a trifecta of nostalgia: the vintage jukebox hum, the irresistible sizzle of food on the grill, and the kind of unpretentious laughter that only a true neighborhood institution can create.
The menu is a tribute to honest-to-goodness comfort food. Think juicy burgers that hit the spot, gyros that nod to the owner’s Greek roots, and a heaping pile of fries that disappear from the table in seconds. The food isn’t trying to reinvent anything—it just needs to be delicious and satisfying. And when you can still get a full meal and a drink for under twenty bucks in downtown Chicago, you know you've found a winner. The drinks are where the real fun begins. With cheap beers, famously generous pours, and the legendary $3 “mystery shot,” there’s always a good reason to stay for just one more round.
While some might call the shots questionable, regulars know it’s the perfect dive-bar ritual, a simple dare that adds a jolt of chaos to the night. Snickers’ true magic, however, lies in its atmosphere. The front room crackles with classic dive-bar energy, where sports are always on the TVs, regulars swap stories with the bartenders, and the vibe is loud and lively. But walk to the back, and you'll find a cozier, more pub-like setting with booths that invite you to settle in for a while. It's two distinct worlds in one bar, ready to match your mood.
In a city of ever-changing trends, Snickers is a constant. It’s where business professionals, tourists, and old-school barflies can all find themselves shoulder-to-shoulder, united by cheap drinks, greasy food, and an appreciation for a spot that's never tried to be anything but itself. It’s not trying to be fancy—it's just real, affordable, and a guaranteed good time. The kind of place where you don’t just have a night out; you get a story...
Read moreVery bad experience after a visit last Saturday for my wife's and I birthday weekend. We sat at the bar while I ordered drinks and my wife had water. Our bartender was attentive at first, taking my order for a beer and my wife's order for water. Following that drink however, it was very difficult to get the bartender's attention let alone her paying attention to her own job.
She started talking extensively and exclusively with one of the male patrons. She then took 3 separate shots with said patron while my wife and I sat by and awaited to give another order. Even though we were less than a foot away from each other, the bartender was too busy drinking/flirting with the patron to pay attention to us (not even a refill on the water).
After having three beers and paying, I thought it was actually generous to leave a $1 tip after the worst bartender service I've personally ever received. While checking my statements last week, I now see that this waitress gave herself an extra $2 to tip herself a total of $3. It is appalling to me that a bartender would not only violate the trust of a customer by stealing and changing the tip amount, but that said bartender actually thought the service she gave was worthy of any additional tip at all.
I've added the outlined photo below to show the variance in what I wrote down and what was charged. If stealing from customers while giving terrible service is a theme at this bar, I would avoid...
Read moreAs a patron, I expect to feel welcomed and safe in any establishment. Unfortunately, my recent experience at Snickers fell far short of this expectation. A person in our group was unceremoniously ejected from the premises by security, solely because a girl felt "uncomfortable." He ordered a beer. He did nothing wrong.
Despite being a respectful customer enjoying a night out, he was given no explanation or opportunity to address the situation. This lack of transparency and communication is deeply concerning. It's disheartening to see a place prioritize the comfort of one individual over the rights and experience of another.
This incident not only tarnished my evening but also raised serious questions about the professionalism and judgment of the staff. I urge the management to reevaluate their policies and ensure that all patrons are treated fairly and respectfully.
My experience at Snickers was marred by the unwarranted ejection and a disregard for customer satisfaction. Until there are clear improvements in how such situations are handled, I cannot recommend this...
