I’ve done walking tours before and I just couldn’t stay engaged with this Chicago one. I was really interested in learning more about Chicago’s history, but within the first hour we got a total of 6 brief facts, including one that I fact checked because I was interested in learning more, but the info was completely off. Any time I would try to step closer to the guide so I could listen better, it was tough because she was foaming from the mouth. I kept trying to ignore it because I paid for the tour and was actually waiting to see if it got any better, but it made it hard when I kept seeing white inside her mouth (I will not drop the name), and had to leave in the middle of the tour.
The tour company should provide their guides with water, especially on a 2-hour tour and with Bluetooth microphones or megaphones since the city is pretty loud (at least on the weekends). Also, maybe more in-between facts every now and then during the walks instead of only just at the stops since the stops were pretty spaced out from each other. I also asked her how many tour guides there were and she said it was a lot so I followed up with asking if they are provided with a script… she tells me they just get the locations to stop at and the simple Wikipedia facts they have to touch on. The walking tour felt very unorganized. I’ve requested to get my money back because I hardly learned anything and didn’t really get anywhere on the tour during the...
Read moreI recently booked the Chicago Gangsters & Ghost Tour with Lillie. While we enjoyed certain aspects of the tour and the history that came along with it - we would have opted out of it had we known what it truly entailed. We were made aware that the tour was a walking tour, however, there was quite a lot of walking in between the tour with awkward silence and no information provided. As someone with a slight hearing deficiency, this tour would highly benefit audio guides for those who are hard of hearing. It may also encourage the tour to be provided to those who may not speak English as a first language. Another suggestion would be for the tour guides to be equipped with more professional attire. Our tour guide was dressed in regular attire like the rest of us and when crossing busy streets it was hard to see where our guide was. A neon shirt with the company logo would also help locate our tour guide at the tour meeting location as many of the people on our tour got lost and confused as where to meet. If a company uniform is not an option, I’d highly suggest some sort of flag. Overall, we did enjoy the history of Chicago we did not learn previously, however, we don’t believe the cost associated with the tour for 2 people ($77 USD) was worth the price or the...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to embark on the Gangsters and Ghosts Tour in Chicago, and it was an unforgettable experience that I highly recommend to anyone seeking a glimpse into the city's captivating history. Our guide, Avery, was an absolute delight – his enthusiasm and storytelling prowess brought the tales of Chicago's notorious gangsters and eerie hauntings to life.
As we strolled through the dimly lit streets of the city's past, Avery regaled us with tales of Al Capone, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and the tragedy of the Iroquois Theatre . His vivid descriptions and engaging anecdotes kept us captivated, transporting us back to an era of bootlegging, speakeasies, and unsolved mysteries.
The tour wasn't just about the stories; Avery also provided fascinating insights into Chicago's architecture, culture, and social history. He pointed out hidden landmarks, shared local legends, and painted a rich picture of the city's transformation from a lawless frontier to the vibrant metropolis it is today.
While the tour was captivating, I would recommend bundling up with a warm coat, as the Chicago nights can get quite chilly. The brisk air added a touch of intrigue to the experience, making the tales of ghosts and gangsters all the more...
