If you are a tourist looking for a stay that is within a walking distance to tourist attractions such as the Field, Shred, Planetarium, or Art Institutes, I highly recommend the hotel.
We arrived way early for our check in and only expected to check our back and off to explore the city. Gustavo at the front desk was kind enough to upgrade and get us to our room right then and there as well as upgraded our room.
This is the most stunning view that overlooks the Michigan lake. You could also see the Field museum from our window. Our jaws just dropped. Gustavo hooked us up!!!
We then walked over to the museum and decided to go to the aquarium. It took us about 10 mins but it was a really pleasant walk. We walked back and visited a bakery which seems to be at every corner in Chi town. Walked back to our hotel. There were so many choices to choose from.
We woke up the next morning getting ready to leave and return our keys. They knew right away that we needed to store our luggages. Another gentleman came by quickly to bring our bags to the storage and gave us our ticket.
I also needed to print a document. Right away, a hotel staff took me to the other side of the Hilton to a business suit. I printed my documents effortlessly.
Overall, our stay was so memorable. It was short but very sweet. Everyone was kind. We got lucked out that Gustavo hooked us up. The hotel is in a prime location. I personally slept really well. The bed was comfortable. I can't complain about pillows. I like mine firm, so I stacked them. The shower has an amazing drainage system which we love. But the view, we decided to stay in our room that night because of the view.
My only issue was nothing of the hotel's fault. My initial price and the final receipt were different. They tried to blame it on Gustavo for upgrading us without letting us know of the price changes. We are typically budget friendly ppl. But, we are more than happy to pay 30 - 40 dollars extra for the room now that we get to taste this incredible view. So, please don't get Gustavo in trouble for this.
I called cause I want to make sure if I were to book again I would know how to do this next time and know all my fees are covered. Basically, they said that I used the wrong site to book. Then they said that the hotel did it. Hilton took care of the issue. In fact the hotel refunded our differences. Once again I am so thankful for all the staff members. The front desk attendances. You guys were so kind. The hotel manager was awesome. The cleaning ladies were super sweet too. Gustavo, you've made our entire trip so worthwhile. Thank...
Read moreI generally don't write negative reviews unless there are things that I think are egregious. A couple of things that I feel are major negatives compel me to write this review.||First, the good -||- The hotel is in a fantastic location. It is a quick 5 - 10 minute walk to get to the heart of the Riverwalk or the Magnificent Mile. There is also a subway stop right at the corner where the hotel is located, making it easy to get to where we wanted to go.||- The room (King with City View) was spacious. We had a corner room. I've seen some comments that the rooms are outdated. I suppose that may be so, and if something like that bothers you then take it into consideration, but I just need functional furniture and it was fine for my wife and me.||- The bathroom counter had plenty of space for my and my wife's toiletries.||- The room had a safe, microwave, refrigerator, and Keurig-style coffee maker in it|||The bad -||- The bed is on a platform that sticks out further than the mattress (see photo). I can't tell you how many times my wife and I rammed our knees and shins into the corner of the platform. What makes this really bad, and why I am knocking a star off for it, is that there are reviews going back more than 10 years that mention this problem! That the hotel management does not seem to care that their guests are banging up their shins is not good.||- We arrived 90 minutes before 3pm check-in time. They said our room was ready but if we wanted to check in before 3pm there was a $35 early check-in fee. If I show up before check-in time I understand that my room may not be ready and that's fine, I will wait. But f the room is already ready then there is no additional cost or effort incurred by the hotel to let me check-in early and they are just charging a fee for the sake of charging a fee. So, another star knocked off the review.||- They said housekeeping was every other day and that is fine, I don't need the room made up every day. However, the 2nd time the room should have been cleaned no one came. It was our last day so it wasn't really a big problem for us, but I point this out in case it would be an issue for others.||We had a fantastic time in Chicago and despite the negatives with the hotel we loved the location and it did not detract from the enjoyment of our trip. I wouldn't advise anyone to not stay here, but be aware of the negatives and take them into consideration when weighing your options for a...
Read moreWhen I arrived at the hotel, I noticed that the outside was dirty. The parking area had dark stains, apparently from oil or gasoline, which gave a feeling of neglect. When trying to enter, I noticed that the main doors were not working properly. When entering the lobby, I had the impression of being in a hotel from the sixties due to its outdated appearance.
The check-in process was somewhat positive, as I was given room 1404 at 10:30 in the morning without any additional charges, although they blocked 100 dollars on my card as a security deposit. However, during my stay, I noticed that of the four elevators in the hotel, initially only two were working, then three stopped working and only one was active at night. Later, they enabled a second elevator. This made me feel that the elevators were not safe and needed urgent maintenance.
When entering my room, I found several deficiencies. The room was visibly deteriorated and outdated. The bathroom was not properly cleaned, and there were nail clippings on the floor next to the bed, which I found unacceptable. I also noticed an electrical problem, as metal lamps and switches generated static electricity when touched. Also, the TV remote control did not work properly.
The noise level was another major problem. During the night, the noise from ambulances, police and traffic was so loud that I thought the window was open, but it was closed. This made the quality of sleep extremely low. The mattress was very hard, possibly outdated, and I found it extremely uncomfortable. The sheets were of low quality, and the pillows were so bad that I had to use three of them together to be able to sleep.
The hotel has some redeeming points: its price is relatively low compared to other hotels in the area, it is in an excellent location, and it offers breakfast included. However, I did not use the breakfast service, as, considering the general state of the hotel, I doubted the hygiene conditions in the kitchens.
Another drawback was that they do not allow delivery people from platforms such as Uber Eats to deliver orders directly to the rooms. Guests must go down to reception to pick them up, which often leads to confusion when trying to identify the orders.
In conclusion, I think this hotel needs urgent attention in terms of cleanliness, maintenance and general management. Although its location is excellent, the current conditions make it not a...
