First time getting Windy's, we wanted to try a big order to try it out. Not sure if we just lost the luck draw or if someone was having a bad day (or if they just hate doordash). No idea what the service or atmosphere is like.
Driver was sitting there 20 minutes before they even would let him pick up (he delivered fine though when he could, Windy's stuck gyoza sauce on top of everything in a little container for some reason so it spilled but I'm not counting that)
Bun and dumpling dough tasted weird and overdone, but it could have been just travel time. Buns didn't have a lot of filling, but maybe its a style? Not sure I'd ever want to eat them again now. From anywhere.
I didn't see anything on the house chowmein that said it could have shrimp in it. (Checked both doordash and windy's website) It wasn't bad and the noodles were great. Nice thick noodles. Just uncomfortable that someone with a seafood allergy might be playing 'surprise-you're-dead' roulette there.
House cheese wontons mention they're sweet on the website but were more like a desert than an appetizer. Fried like heck but rubbery - was probably delivery time so not factoring that.
Couldn't tell the difference in taste between the generals and the orange chicken besides that one had wet broccoli fresh from the steamer in it. Both tasted like decent chicken bits egg-battered in a tempura(?) that tastes a like what if the McDonalds chicken nugget factory forgot the salt. Only thing I could imagine there was that they just...
Read moreI used dine here +25yrs ago while attending CSU Chico, came to the area and was hoping it was still around and survived the pandemic. To my delight it was there! I was a little uncertain when opened the door but I do admit I arrived in-between lunch & early dinner crowds at around 2pm. The place has changed some but trusted my gut that the food would still be awesome.
Ordered some of my favorite dishes and now family's favorites as well. I have to admit the food is as good as I had remembered. I plan to be in the area a bit more in the coming years and will be sure to get some to-go when I leave or eat-in like I had done on this trip. I generally prefer to support family run restaurants as opposed to the larger chain/franchise type restaurants. So for those who are conditioned to have super polished dining rooms, lighting, ambient music, and all that then you're missing out if you don't stop-by here and help the local independent establishments...
Read moreNot really sure what happened. I’ve been eating here for about 12 years. This is the first time Ive ordered in about 6 months and it was completely different.
Ordered two combo plates and cream cheese wontons. The combo plates are smaller portions than they used to be, they used to really pack it in. Not the biggest deal. My favorite thing about Windys has always been how crispy they get their chicken. This wasn’t the case with these orders. Both were kind of rubbery, no sauce, and the general chicken had a fishy taste zero spice. Just rubbery, salty, fishy, and sugary. Chow mein and fried rice weren’t good either. I couldn’t finish my plate.
The wontons were also off. They had puffed up pretty nicely but there was a tiny little fried teaspoon of cream cheese inside, completely disproportionate to the wonton. They also did not include sweet and sour sauce, but they may have forgotten.
Overall this order was really bad. Not sure...
