This review is painful. I want to like this place. The ice cream is good. It really is, which is why I can’t bring myself to give Olson’s 1 star; however, one bad experience has ruined Olson’s for me.
I get to end of the line, ready to pay for my ice cream. I see discounted, packaged cookies by the checkout. “Great!” I buy three. And when I take a bite out of the first one, I am greeted with a noxious taste. MOLD! All three cookies! So I look at the expiration date. They had been expired for months!
So my question to Olson’s is “why?” The cookies were clearly expired. That’s why they were discounted. It wasn’t a mistake. They couldn’t just eat the loss of their surplus. So what other corners are being cut? If they were willing to sell expired cookies to make back a few bucks, I can’t imagine what else is going on behind the scenes.
Edit (response to Olson’s response): Like I said in my original review, this is good ice cream. When I crave ice cream and think about what limited options are around, it’s frustrating that I can’t get past the moldy cookies.
You’re right about this event happening last year. And you are also spot on about the exact promotion. It was the three for one cookies! That only verifies that this event happened! I even mentioned that there were three cookies in my original review.
You acknowledge that the cookies were sold and yet you refuse to accept accountability for the fact they were expired.
That lack of accountability is the core of the problem. Rather than address the issue, you choose to try to...
Read moreHello, everyone I just wanted to update my review because the owners reached out and acknowledged my experience was less than great and provided me with a gift card for the amount I spent. Haven’t made it back out there, but I’m sure it will be great.
This was hugely disappointing. They advertise waffles on the sign out front and with posters inside. No price is listed. When we ordered and asked the price we were told they were 9.50. It’s a waffle, with a scoop of ice cream, a topping a whipped cream. Still ordered it, but nothing was what we ordered. I ordered a cookies and cream waffle which was pictured with a chocolate waffle, came with a regular waffle. My wife ordered a pecan waffle, pictured with pecans, but came with none. My kid ordered the waffle pictured in the front sign, and was told they didn’t have it. I didn’t complain bc it was staffed by teenagers who seemed inconvenienced by our presence and questions. I guess if was charging 9.50 for what they are selling, I wouldn’t list the price either.
The ice...
Read moreOlson’s always reminds me of home, so I had to stop by for some nostalgia—especially on a hot day at the air show. For the most part, it’s still the Olson’s I remembered. The exterior has gotten a nice revamp, which looks great and freshens things up. Inside, it was very crowded with people lined up wall to wall, but that just speaks to how popular it still is.
I got a root beer float, which was awesome and hit the spot. I also had to get my longtime favorite—cotton candy ice cream. But I think they may have changed something in the recipe. It used to have these little rainbow chips that gave it a fun texture and flavor, but it just didn’t taste the same this time around. A bit disappointing since that flavor was such a childhood staple for me. Still, it’s always nice to return to a place tied to so many...
