I visited this place with my uncle yesterday while waiting for an antique store to open. I frequent Mexican restaurants and almost always get at least one chiles rellano. I had my heart set on a chiles rellano and ordered two of them. I sat and waited, for a curiously long time, becoming more and more excited as we waited for our food.
When the food came I prepared to dig in, a little confused. What I found on my plate was two quarter cup piles of cooked ground pork, each with a slice of roasted poblano pepper on top, all smothered in cheese. The VAST MAJORITY of the plate was cheese. Now, we WERE in Wisconsin...but this was NOT chiles rellanos.
I waited for the waiter to return and asked him if they were maybe out of chiles rellanos and he said, "No. This is chiles rellanos." I said, "No, sir. This is not chiles rellanos. Chiles rellanos is my favorite Mexican dish and this is NOT it. I have NEVER seen chiles rellanos like this." He then went on to try to explain to me that what I wanted was chiles POBLANO and asked if I would like that instead. I said no as I had also ordered a small fish taco and required nothing else, relinquishing my "chiles rellano".
The server then walked away, slamming things around in the kitchen for five minutes and returned shortly after with a plate, placed it in front of me and in a classic, midwestern, passive aggressive hostility said, "THIS is chiles POBLANO." Which was two cheese filled roasted poblano peppers wrapped in what was, essentially, an omlete....and walked away. Obviously not what I wanted I didn't eat this either. When he returned I showed him pictures of chiles rellanos on Google and he proceeded to show me the pictures in their menu.
We left shortly after, boxed "chiles poblano" in a to go box...and here I am, leaving my review. Not once in 38 years have I been served chiles rellano that in any way resembled what this restaurant presented me. What is more, I personally make chiles rellanos in my home and it is not that hard. A friend of mine also owns a Mexican restaurant, Los Pueblos in Arnold's Park Iowa, please visit if you get a chance, their chiles RELLANO is OUTSTANDING. Sometimes you have to go somewhere else to REALLY appreciate what you have at home.
I'd give them zero stars if I could, first and foremost for being a Mexican restaurant that doesn't know how to make chiles rellanos and second for the passive aggressive hostility of the server insisting that I was wrong.
Would not...
Read moreWhen they were a newer business they did a good job . Now they reuse customers cheese sauce if you do not finish it on your table. Avoid this restaurant because they do some very gross things with food and no longer care what it tastes like and have lost the momentum they had when first opened. The people who work there have become shady and like to do things that really make the food questionable and will make you very mad as a paying customer. We have seen them dump used cheese sauce in the for sale pot 2 times now and have had the staff screw with our food for pointing out. Also have had this place try to steal money from us by intentianally overcharging us for chips and dip to the tune of 47 dollars. When I pointed out the error they got defensive and screamed at us as if we were in the wrong for catching them . I had to point out the menu price and make them repeat it back to me before they admitted wrongdoing . Never eat here until something major changes. The new remodel is nice looking but the staff hates its customers and they treat all the customers that way. Casa Vallarta in Eau Claire which is possibly the best food in Wisconsin when you crave great Mexican food driving the extra 10 minutes to Vallarta is so worth the money. This place has lost itself and is no longer clean or...
Read moreI hate to say this was by far the worse dining experience we have had at Casa Mexicana CF. We have come back a couple time through the years but today was terrible. My husband’s meal was overly salty to the point it wasn’t edible. We ordered 2 kids meal chicken tenders, only received one. The one we did receive the chicken was completely overcooked/ burnt and pre sliced prior to frying. When asked to re-fire the one we had, we were told then they were out of chicken tenders. We got eye rolls from the server when requesting a menu to choose something else, and then again only received 1 of the two kids meals re-ordered. I’m all for understanding mistakes and if the restaurant is busy, but it wasn’t even prime dinner time on a Sunday evening. Needless to say we will not be going back. There was lack of apologies for the mistakes that occured and zero ownership. Asking me if everything is okay every two seconds AFTER the food being brought up didn’t make...
