This family owned restaurant in California's Central Valley in a farming community in Chowcilla offers authentic Mexican fare prepared by the uncle, the waitresses are a mother and daughter team, and also includes a son and father who helps out as well. The ambiance is fair and decorated with Mexican curtains separating each booth and lots of odds and ends and various other items. sprinkled throughout. The food is pretty good, but not great! I will say that their fried cauliflower cooked in this wonderful tasting macha sauce was to die for. It was nice and spicy and the cauliflower was cooked just right. It's a must try. Yummy!!! However, bad news regarding my hubby's dish of chili verde, while tasty, he crunched down on egg shells. Not good. I think chef uncle must of had a hard night the night before and lost his concentration. I ordered the waffle without the strawberry sauce and when I got my order, what do you think was the first thing I saw? You guessed it, plenty of strawberry sauce. I decided not to send the order back and just scraped off all the strawberry sauce. I also liked the fact that this restaurant had a very good habanero hot sauce which I have never seen at any other restaurant. Would I return to this restaurant in the future? Yes! I think so. It is truly a family owned business that is...
Read moreThis is probably the worst Mexican/food I’ve had at a sit down restaurant. The most soggy, greasy, super salty, overcooked potatoes. And by the looks of what other people posted, the same exact plate, this is standard 🤢 Super salty beans. Stale tortillas. The meat that they put on the tostada was a complete mystery, it was black and didn’t taste like anything recognizable, it was probably some sort of old chorizo, it was disgusting 🤮. I didn’t complain or say anything because a failure on this level is not fixable, they need to hire people that actually know how to cook. The pancakes tasted generic, like they came out of a box mix. Doggy bagged, for my dog, not sure if he ate it. The atmosphere was like I was in a basement, it was cold 🥶 no heater, and when you walk in the restaurant you get hit with the over powering smell of fabuloso, so we picked the furthest table away from the entrance. I should have listened to my instincts and walked out the door right then, but I was hungry and do give restaurants a chance. The only good thing I could say is the...
Read moreFirst Impression, I would have rated this place a 1 star. The entrance was dirty, there were notes taped everywhere, then the door slams behind you. You go through another set of squeaky doors to a drab setting another sign saying wait to be seated..waiting, waiting, waiting, finally a (in my opinion) rude male yelled across the room "one?" In respect for the very few people in the place, I waited until he came closer to answer. I ordered chicken fajitas per the mans suggestion, it was gross. First the chicken was rubbery and had a weird after taste second we had to PAY FOR CHIPS AND SALSA?? I've Never paid for C&S ever..the fountain drink was weak..Now my husband tried my plate and agreed with me, he ordered the carnitas and they were delicious and Im very picky about carnitas, the prices were very affordable and considering so close to the golf course I was pleasantly surprised. One last note, there was zero toilet paper in the bathroom major 👎to have to use toilet...
