I want to start by saying how amazing it is to have so many quality food establishments in the South Bay. And that I support keeping it local and helping the hospitality business as much as possible.
However my experience was lacking. No.1. The greeter apologized ahead of seating us. Letting us know that they were full inside and that there was only seating in the patio area. I agreed to sit there when she suggested it. I never thought that it would take so long to serve us though.
So if you're invited to sit outside, please know you will be treated as a 2nd class customer. Out of sight, out of mind. 20 some minutes later, I fortunately caught the eye of a server bringing something to another table and did not lose eye contact till he came over. Very important not to lose eye contact (mental note).
He asked if we had been asked for our order. I said no and immediately let him know we were ready to order and knew what we wanted.
I said "2 pancakes with 2 scrambled eggs". My mom who I invited to breakfast corrected me and told the server "I would like the eggs over easy". Then when it was my turn I asked only for a double Bloody Mary.
What came out? Very promptly I might add. Very quick food service by the way. I have to give credit where it is due. They brought out 2 orders of pancakes 2 orders of eggs and one of those orders of eggs had 3 eggs on them and the server of the food said they had made a mistake in the kitchen that benefitted us. Keep in mind the person who brought us the food was not the same person who took our order.
Why did I only order a drink? I had already had breakfast. I thought I was talking my mom to lunch but she had other plans later so......
Continuing....I did not want to make a scene or felt like having a discussion with the very nice and very accommodating server (bringer of the food). The order taker was nowhere to be seen or found and I was having such a nice conversation with my mom that I didn't want to walk around the restaurant looking for the guy.
I would like to express that he did not have his writing pad or tablet of any kind. I feel that if he had something to write with, the order might not have been the wrong one. The food will not go to waste as my boys love pancakes anytime of the day.
This is the reason for the 1 star. I feel it is valid considering.
P.S. The pancakes were delicious, according to my mom. This establishment seems legit and prosperous but my experience was not a great one. My expectations were not exceeded and I spent more than I needed to. I did still leave a tip albeit a forced one......my change was never returned to me. I was going to give more but was never given the...
Read morePretty much everything was WAAAYYY below acceptable for a restaurant of this supposed caliber. I have been to the La Mesa and Little Italy locations and they both were great. For some reason it seems like they’re trying on purpose to make this location fail!!! First off we walked in on a mid-July Wednesday at 11:30 am and the restaurant is so stuffy because it’s hot OUTSIDE. But the AC is not even working. When I asked the hostess she said someone had forgotten to change the thermostat from EIGHTY FIVE DEGREES the day before!!Who the heck does that other than just trying to make it hotter for your so called patrons? Then the waiter shows up and did not even acknowledge us. He just showed up to the table and stood there looking at us with a “well? Any minute now!” look. Did not ask if we wanted to order drinks in mean time or anything. I had to tell him “can we order our drinks meantime?” Still, just a annoyed look! When we asked for a minute to look at the menu he literally rolled his eyes and walked away. Came back a minute later to get drink order. When my client decided to change her order from iced tea to a mojito he just did not pay any attention. Just the most awkward and uncomfortable I have ever felt with a server. So I guess he just decide to pass us down to the busgirl or something because next thing I see is someone just walking up with my beer and an iced tea. When we told her that was the wrong order, no apologies, no literal anything, about their error. We then asked her if we could order our food and instead of sending our waiter she just says “ok, I’ll do it “ . I asked for their “farmers salad and asked to add chicken. “ we’re out of chicken” !!Who runs out of chicken at 11:30 on a Wednesday?? And since I’m trying to reduce my cholesterol I couldn’t opt for the shrimp or steak add on. So my other option was a substantially more expensive salmon. More than doubled the price of the salad btw. Then when the food came my salad had no dressing on it, and none was on the side.
I guess maybe I was just in a negative frame of mind right from the beginning when the restaurant was hot and muggy and they just didn’t care about it, but really truly, EVERYTHING was SOOOO FAR below par that I will not only never ever go back again to this location at least, I would recommend you don’t go either. It sure wasn’t worth the $75 that I paid for a pizza, horrible salad with slice of salmon, and two drinks. There’s many better options nearby on third avenue. Maybe they won’t have the name recognition of this “high end “ brand but for sure you can find better food AND...
Read moreI feel a responsibility to the people of southern San Diego to provide reviews that critically critique food, service, experience, and atmosphere, so the citizens of America's finest city can spend their hard-earned money on a restaurant worthy of patronage.
It is with great pleasure and pride in my community that I award Farmers Table with 5 golden stars. When we arrived with a reservation my wife and I were seated immediately! We reviewed the menu and were advised by the servers on some great options for beer and popular cocktails. My wife was stuck between 2 beers to order. The servers brought us samples so she could make a more educated choice and selected an airy Belgian beer. I ordered a blueberry moonshine cocktail. Both of these drinks were stupendous and set the tone for a night of luxury and impeccable flavors.
The sampling of drinks was the only start of the amazing service. For our meal, we ordered some specials - a surf and turf for my wife and game of the day for myself. My steak was seared with divine intervention. It melted in my mouth and the fat was perfectly rendered. My wife's steak, to her dismay, was slightly overcooked. We informed the server and the chefs promptly seared a new stake to her liking. The gravy was an exquisite blend of chocolate and red wine glazed over the meat like a chocolate dream.
For my wife's stake being slightly overcooked, our Server provided a desert free of charge. A bread pudding topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a few fresh strawberries and blueberries drizzled on the plate. The desert was incredible - I am not typically a fan of bread pudding and I ate most of it.
I feel so much guilt for not having the vocabulary to describe how incredible our experience at Farmer's Table was. Kudos to the staff, the chef, and the managers of this new location. You have earned two loyal customers and I am proud to say Chula Vista has a new affordable and high-quality restaurant in our neighborhood.
Thank you so much for the...
