Dojo Gelato — Restaurant in Cincinnati

I have food allergies, including dairy. I went here with family and wasn't really expecting to get anything. They had sorbet, though, and washed out the scoops and pulled from a different part of their sorbet container to make sure I could have dessert with my family without any risk of a reaction. The man behind the counter even went back and double-checked the ingredients to make sure there wasn't anything on my list that I couldn't have. He recommended another sorbet when there was an issue with my first choice. (Yes, multiple choices!!) So he saved me from anaphylaxis, which I'll always be grateful for, and then there was the sorbet itself. I got strawberry balsamic. Intense true strawberry flavor (none of this fake syrupy taste) - made with real seedy strawberries. Just enough edge of balsamic to make it complex and interesting without overpowering the strawberry. REALLY good stuff. Can't wait to try...

After seeing this place on Yelp my husband and I were super eager to try it. The guy working was hesitant to let us sample the gelato which was disappointing. I really wanted to try more than one flavor. I got a large sweet cream soft serve which was pretty good but awfully small. It was only two swirls above the cone. They also didn't have waffle cones which was sad (even though they had the waffle cone maker there). My husband got a swirl cone but when they first tried to put ice cream in it just liquid was coming out. They finally got the gelato to come out but his cone was super soggy. I’m super excited to have this place in my neighborhood! I’m glad that awesome businesses are continuing to open and that Northside is really becoming a great place to hang out. This place isn’t on the Main Street of Hamilton so you’ll get to explore a book you might not have gone to before!

While I can’t say I was super into any of their scoopable gelato, I really enjoyed their blueberry soft serve! It was uber creamy and not over sweet. They always offer vanilla soft serve, this blueberry was seasonal and might not be available when you visit.

I recommend topping whatever you get with some of their house-made hot fudge or caramel. And probably some sprinkles for a crunch...
