I try to support local businesses in general and especially Black owned businesses. So about two weeks ago I drove from the Tri-county area to Walnut Hills to purchase dinner for myself and another person. I tried calling before I left to make sure they had not sold out but got voicemail which was full and was unable to leave a message. I had the other person check FB for any updates on their page. Found nothing. Called again when I was about 10 minutes away. Same thing; call went to voicemail and VM was full. Finally got there around 7:10p. Parking was nonexistent. Rode around the block a few times looking for somewhere to park when someone comes out the store and writes on the outdoor board, "Sold out". Ugh! I don't doubt that the food is not good but the business approach is not encourage customer/customer return support. I couldn't find any info on FB or the website about parking since it is located in an area with limited parking. That is a big issue by itself. In today's world where data can be used to look at past trends and needs, a policy of "when it's gone it's gone" is not inviting to potential customers. I don't know any other restaurant that uses that approach. Chefs and food handlers know how to prepare based on the stats. Gas exceeds $3+/gallon so unless you live within a 3 mile radius of this restaurant it's just not worth the risk of getting there and finding that they are sold out. It seems that maybe it caters more to people in the immediate neighborhood and that's fine. So I attempted to call last week during business hours to talk with them before posting this but again got voicemail and unable to leave a message. It's great that the president ate there but it's a much bigger challenge for the rest of Cincinnati unless you live around the corner or are in walking distance. Unfortunately until they can establish set hours and ensure menu items till closing, I cannot...
Read moreThere are several moments that stick with you for a lifetime; i.e. birth of a child, school graduations, etc... My first meal at Just Q'in will easily go down in history as one of my best meals ever. The "Brisket is Life" shirts the staff was wearing and the nod of approval when I chose fatty over lean were foreshadowing for what was to come. Words cannot do the brisket justice, at least the words i can come up with. I'm no brisket expert but sometimes you have the realization that what you have in front of you is exceptional. Usually I enjoy brisket when the fat and meat are eaten together but even the lean parts can hold their own. The way the smoke flavor permeates the meat is a sign of a job well done. I found that the accompanying BBQ sauce, while good, takes away from the love and care that went into the beef.
Clearly I'm a fan of the brisket but as if that wasn't enough for high praise the sides are exceptional as well. The mac 'n cheese is easily one of the best I've had. While it has the flavor of the classic southern american style it isn't overburdened by oil and richness i usually find in BBQ joint mac 'n cheese. I would easily come back to this restaurant for the brisket and mac'n cheese alone but the greens and peach cobbler i had were honorable mentions as well. The ribs (Adam as they're called here) were top knotch as well. The cook was superb, flavor on point, and with just a touch of their BBQ sauce just right.
Not only one of the best BBQ spots I've been to, but easily one of the best meals I've had in the greater cincy area period. As they say......
Read moreI pass by here everyday on my way to, and from, work and it always smells so good. After craving bbq all day today, I decided to to give Just Q'in a try. I googled them to check out the menu and discovered that I could order online. Around 4:20, I submitted my order of 1 chicken sandwich, sm mac n cheese, and a sm baked beans for a 5:30 pick up time.
At 5:03, they left a message saying they had just ran out of chicken. I called back at 5:07 and asked them to make it pulled pork instead. The girl I spoke to informed me that they had cancelled my order online, so I would have to pay for it when I got there. Why would they cancel my order before talking to me??? My order had been place over 40 minutes prior to that call, so they should have had the chicken for my order set aside.
I got there right at 5:30. There was a sign behind the counter that said they were out of chicken and baked beans. Since she didn't say anything about the baked beans when she called about the chicken, I figured they'd had enough for my order. Ummm...wrong. At the counter, I was informed that, even though they had over an hour to get my order ready, it was not ready. Since they had cancelled my order, they didn't know what I ordered and they waited until I got there to ask me.
So, although I planned ahead, because of their inefficiency and incompetence, I was supposed to wait for my order that was only going to be 1/3 correct. I don't think so. The food might be delicious, but I will never know because the first impression they portrayed to me was an...
