Gilberto's Tacos Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Citrus Heights

We just got back from take away order of 3 street tacos of shredded chicken and Chile Relleno Burrito, Drinks (Melon and Horchata), and salsa sauces based off the reviews.

We were the only customers waiting for food and we sat facing the front desk which gave us good view of the kitchen area and we noticed that the cook used the microwave to warm up some of our food items.

3 Street Tacos - chicken was bland, full of poultry smell and taste. I could only finish 2 out of 3 tacos despite adding their sauces for additional flavoring. It was not enjoyable.

Chille Renello Burrito - It was a bit bland, mostly full of lettuce and rice. There was one chille renello with cheese in it. I had to add sauce on it and was hungry to get through it.

Melon and Horchata Drink - Melon drink tasted very sugary, syrupy, and a bit off. Unfortunately, we had to let it go after one sip. Horchata was sweet too, but not as bad as the melon.

Sauces - we got 4 types of sauces. Hot and Mild Salsa were decent too but not flavorful.

Chips were crispy, fresh, and probably the best of part of the meal.

Not sure if something was off tonight or they might have a different cook, but our experience was different than reviews on here. Hopefully this helps to improve the food...

I have lived in the area for 20 years and have not visited any eating establishment at this location (there have been a few). Gilberto's is new and their offer of a chipotle burrito and drink for under $6 finally made me check it out. The HUGE burrito was awesome. I had a chicken burrito and skipped the sour cream trying to make it healthier. They didn't scrimp on the chicken. While it would have added more to my waistline, the sour cream would have made it even better. The free chips and salsa was a big bonus. They were super nice. I tried to call and order ahead so I would be able to just pick up on my way home from work and get out fast, but the phone wasn’t picked up and after a few rings I thought they might have answered because it was quiet on the other side but then there was some sort of ear splitting screech, I immediately hung up. I waited about 20 minutes and called again, same thing happened, no answer, ear splitting screech. Why have a phone if you’re not going to answer and also it is incredibly unpleasant to have something screech in your ear without any warning.
