I visited the restaurant at 5:17 this evening. Due to the customers, I was asked to park and wait, which I understand, it happens from time to time, especially with limited access to the restaurant. The first issue is that I waited 23 minutes parked before the young lady came out with the food. That put me at just about 35 minutes at the restaurant. I used to live in the area and would frequent the restaurant at least once a week. But, I have since moved to Brandon. Today, I went 45 minutes out of the way to visit Hank's and could not have been more disappointed. When I arrived home, We discovered that we must have been given someone else's order (I have a copy of the receipt and the food, and the food we were given was placed in the trash, as it is not something we would normally order). I called and spoke to Jay and explained the issue and stated I simply wanted my money back. Seeing as the inconvenience and complete wrong order, I thought that was fair. I even gave the girl at the window a tip!!!!
Jay told me that the owner closes the store every night and to call back at 7:30 to ask. I called at 7:45. Jay answered the telephone again. I asked for the owner. He stated that he was not there at the time and that they were too busy to deal with me. He then became very argumentative and stopped answering questions. HE ALSO STATED THAT IF I WANTED TO GET A REFUND, I COULD COME BACK TO THE STORE AND GET A REFUND WITH HIS FIST!!!!! I'VE NEVER BEEN TALKED TO IN THAT FASHION. So, now I'm out $40.00, time, and had to go back out to get dinner for my family.
I don't normally leave bad reviews, but it appears this place has really gone to crap! It used to be such a fun, family atmosphere. NOT ANYMORE!!!
Myself nor anyone I now in the Egypt Lake, Carrollwood, or Citrus park will visit this establishment again.
So sad when great restaurants go south :( Now it just...
Read moreThis was our first time coming here, the lady in the from was very friendly and kind and once we told her it was our first time there she then told us about the menu and recommended the pulled pork sandwich with slaw, we declined because my husband wanted ribs and brisket. We ordered the 3 meat combo with pulled pork, ribs, and brisket and got baked beans and Mac and cheese as the sides. We paid $37. Our friend got the quarter chicken with slaw and sweet corn nuggets. We all got our food really fast like within 5 minutes of ordering and I could tell by the look on my husbands face, he was disappointed. The portions sizes were small and the ribs were dry, brisket had no flavor but i personally I liked the pulled pork. The Mac and cheese was not good at all. It was seasoned first off and overly seasoned at that. All you could taste was seasoning. When you order baked beans you think like sweet and Smokey baked beans with hints of brown sugar but it was definitely not that at all. The brisket had no Smokey flavor at all. We tired one of the corn nuggets from our friend and I liked the batter used on them gave it a nice hallow crunch but it picked up the flavor of catfish which I’m assuming is fried in the same oil. Personally I don’t think we will be coming back. We paid a lot for small portions and it wasn’t that good. Very...
Read moreWow! What an amazing place with great food. I only had to type in best Catfish and Hanks Catfish and BBQ pulled up as #1 on my search feed. Wow, I was not disappointed. Although I had passed the restaurant just moments before not knowing where Google was taking me.. So I ordered the catfish meal, of course, with fried pickels and collard greens, the chicken quarter with potato salad and corn, a side of fried okra and the bread pudding.
First thing first..YES to the catfish, oh my goodness, it was seasoned just right and very meaty, a dash of hot sauce took it to the top. All of the sides were great..they are really "cooking" in that kitchen. Now for the chicken...are you kidding me!? that was the biggest leg and thigh I've ever remember seeing! I mean, BIG!! It was smoked, seasoned to perfection and tender. The sauces were awesome as well.
And let's talk about dessert..the bread pudding tasted like Tampa made bread pudding i remembered as a child. It also had pecans in it, which was new to me but I loved it.
Although I now have lunch and dinner for a few days, I'm definitely coming back to try everything! Yes, the service was also excellent. Next time I will dine in as I love the decor and it looked like a very safe and welcoming place to...
