On 8/29/25 at 5:35 Pm I received my Uber delivery order from The Hungry Greek it was as a Greek Salad from the CARROLLWOOD location in Tampa. When I took a bite of the salad I bit into something very hard. It hurt and I thought for a moment I had fractured a tooth. When I took that hard piece out of my mouth I looked at it. It was some employees false finger nail in my salad. Called and spoke to some girl who said her name was Madison and said she was the manager. I explained what happened. She puts the phone down to tell the other staff and they all started laughing in the background as she was laughing and telling staff what happened. She forgot the phone line was open. She offered no help and then would not give me her name a second time. This is an indication of how unsanitary conditions are in this restaurant where they are not using gloves to prepare orders. I lost my money because I couldn’t continue eating that salad finding that false nail in it. I had to toss it, I was so grossed out. Then the laughing in the background by this so called manager which I don’t believe she was a manager but the laughing with the other staff was insult to injury. She demonstrated that she didn’t care and then she says, after I asked her who was preparing my food bare handed without gloves, I’m sure I’ll figure it out. When I asked her for her name again because of the laughing. She tells me they don’t give out anyone’s name. That’s because I called her out on the laughing and making fun of the situation when she put the phone down. I have included a photo with the false nail from that employee. These restaurants need to be inspected by the...
Read moreAs someone born in Greece and raised in the States on authentic Greek home cooking, I’m always hopeful when I see a Greek restaurant. Unfortunately, The Hungry Greek is more “fast-casual Mediterranean” than authentically Greek—and it’s time they own that.
Let’s start with the menu. Falafel? Tabouli? These are Middle Eastern staples—not Greek.
Of course, culinary overlap exists around the Mediterranean. But if you’re going to call yourself “The Hungry Greek,” then the food should reflect that identity. Instead, what’s offered is a watered-down, pan-Mediterranean fusion menu dressed up with feta, potato salad and tzatziki to pass as Greek.
The few actually Greek items—like souvlaki, spanakopita, or gyro—are fine, but nothing standout. They feel like an afterthought next to the hummus bowls and falafel wraps. If you’re aiming for Greek, lean into it. Make pastitsio, youvetsi, gemista, or moussaka. Serve loukaniko, lahanodolmades, or a real Greek Horiatiki (village) salad WITHOUT potato salad...LOL.
Instead of calling this place “Greek,” it would be more honest—and respectful—to brand it as something like “The Hungry Mediterranean” or “The Modern Mezze Grill.” That would better reflect the menu and avoid misleading customers who walk in expecting traditional Greek cuisine.
If you’re in the mood for casual Mediterranean food with a Greek-inspired twist, The Hungry Greek is serviceable. But if you’re craving the real flavors of Greece, you’ll need to...
