Maybe they had an off day. Maybe things aren't the same in Covid times. It sucked from start to finish. A mid morning Monday 10:30ish. Not that busy. It took forever to get seated. Our server was clearly having a bad day. It was written all over her face and body language. I asked for hot tea. No. The hot water dispenser was broken. Although there was hot coffee but you're telling me there was no way get any hot water? No microwave, no pots and a stove?? Fine, sweet tea instead. The Bloody Mary was super spicy but not in a good way. Waters were ordered but not brought. The food took a long time to come out. I thought they might be short staffed in the kitchen, but no there were 2 cooks in there. The avocado toast had barely any avocado, the eggs were in-between hard and soft boiled , not poached. The home fries came out raw. Completely raw. They were replaced with hash browns that were also raw. Our server asked how they were and at the same time told me she usually doesn't recommend the home fries for that reason but then motioned that the hashbrowns didn't look done to her either. Then why did you bring them out? This is obviously an on going problem. Servers only took care of their own tables. Not my table? No coffee refill for you. That is not my responsibility. It took a super long time to get anything including the check and change. But that's because we watched our server chitchat for 5 mins at the register with the other servers. My change in her hand. We finally left with out getting the change. I told our server to just keep it as we passed the register at the front door seeing as it was still in her hand. I saw 3 other tables complain or send food back. Over all an absolute disappointment. I will never go back. The yolk isn't the only broken thing at this place. It's all broken. Bruchies, The Riviera and First Watch are all a stone's throw away, thank goodness if I want...

Oof. I really, really wish I could rate this place better.

First of all, it is now called GOLDEN YOLK. That's right folks...it got renamed. They took the The Broken Yolk signage. Even though we have been there numerous times. The menu is also a bit different.

We had a waitress and what appeared to be a trainee waitress shadowing her. The lead took our order, and then a couple of minutes later asking what type of toast. Not a problem. We got a soft drink and a coffee. They returned with promptly with the beverages and straws.

Then an odd thing, the lead asked if I wanted a spoon for my coffee. I said sure. They brought one and then we ordered.

We ordered the gravy skillet and a breakfast sandwich with a side of grits.

A moment later, the lead comes back and asks me what kind of bread do I wish for my plate. She rattles off the bread selections. I chose sourdough.

Several minutes later, the food is out. I get the gravy skillet (pictured) and my husband the sandwich with grits. Was asked if we needed anything else, but only asked for additional napkins.

They retreated, and that's when we noticed no utensils.

Then I noticed that the bread I was supposed to get? My husband got it....

I started digging in with my coffee spoon at my "skillet", which is a little porcelain dish, and not a skillet...and the scalloped potatoes were just tough, as if not cooked thoroughly.

I glanced over and asked my husband how his was...he said, "Honesty..not that good." I could see him pick up the grits with his spoon provided with his dish, and they were beyond lumpy; they were BOULDERS.

I normally have a healthy appetite, but this morning's meal undoubtedly was a resounding failure. From the tepid service, to the subpar food preparation, it may be par for course that you take these things into consideration...because from what we saw this morning from the very sparse crowd, a correction...

I really want to give this place a higher rating especially because the food is amazing. My daughter had pancakes with bacon (which she loved), my husband had French toast with eggs & bacon (total hit with him), and I had the eggs Benedict with home fries which were so good (and the eggs were poached perfectly). The reason why the 3 stars instead of 5 was due to the customer service. We went on a Sunday at 11 so there was a wait which wasn't the issue. Once seated we asked the hostess if they could change the TV within our area to the Germany vs. Camaroon soccer game. She said no problem. We were seated in a small nook of the restaurant with our own TV since It's in am area that is away from all other customers and TVs. A server came by to clear the table by us so we asked him the she question. He went and asked the manager and told us she would change it for us. Mind you we still haven't seen our waitress to order. Some time later our waitress came and took our orders and, AGAIN, we asked if they could change the channel. By this time my daughter and I went to the restroom and we noticed that all the other TVs were already on the soccer game we were requesting. When we arrived, my husband asked a FOURTH time about the TV channel. The manager happened to be nearby with the remote IN her hand, and we heard her tell our waitress that "[she] doesn't have time for that". Really! 😡 Luckily our waitress asked her manager for the remote and changed the channel for us. I swear it isn't so hard to change the channel on one TV since all the others were already on the soccer game. If it wasn't that the place was packed, we would have asked for another table closer to the other TVs. Literally the saving grace for thus place was the food which was so delicious. All three of us are willing to try it again at another time to see if maybe it was just that day that...

I would like to share a brief review of a breakfast diner called Broken Egg Cafe. I stumbled upon this hidden gem and was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional experience they provided. Despite being unfamiliar with this restaurant, I decided to give it a try, and I must say, the prices were incredibly reasonable considering the generous portions of delicious food they served. The entire staff demonstrated a high level of professionalism and competence, making my visit truly enjoyable. The Broken Egg Cafe has managed to create an outstanding establishment, and it's exactly the type of place that enriches your community. I highly recommend giving it a try, and I'm confident you'll leave just as satisfied as I was. I'm planning to post this review on Google Maps and Yelp, and I'm even considering reaching out to corporate to personally commend the store manager for their exceptional work.

This is my second visit to the cafe. First time, I had the Sopa Benedict with carne asada instead of the shredded beef. It was quite tasty. My friend enjoyed her meal that time as well. This time, despite morning hours, I ordered the street tacos. The carne asada was very flavorful which made for great tacos. I think next time I will ask to add cotija cheese. The guacamole was good, but I do not eat it on my tacos. The rice and refried beans lacked flavor. The rice was actually served luke warm at best. My server, Sarah, was very attentive. She refilled my drinks during my meal and handled my check (instead of me having to go to the cashier). I'm giving four stars, since both visits received great service and the carne asada is tasty. Today's visit with the rice and beans would have been three stars. I also did not like the crowding of the food on the plate.
