Dunkin' — Restaurant in City of Batavia

When I woke up on the morning of March 16, 2023, all I wanted was a corn muffin. After I got off of work — around 3:30 p.m. — my boyfriend and I went in search of one.

I stopped at two different bakeries — no luck. I decided, as one last Hail Mary, to check out the Dunkin' in Batavia. I didn’t know if Dunkin' had corn muffins, but I figured I’d find out when I got there.

At Dunkin’, I asked the cashier, a skinny white boy (late teens to early twenties, probably), for a corn muffin. He packaged a muffin and rang me up without a word. Success! My boyfriend also got a sausage egg and cheese on a croissant.

I paid for our order, and then the cashier handed me a paper bag. I looked inside. It wasn’t a corn muffin.

“Excuse me?” I said. “This looks like a carrot cake muffin, not a corn muffin.”

“Oh, we’ve never sold corn muffins,” he said. “I just assumed you meant to order a carrot cake muffin.”

HUH?

It would have taken that employee all of five seconds to clarify my meaning and say, “We don’t sell corn muffins, can I offer you something else?” Instead, he had me pay for a product the store didn’t even sell.

I said, “I didn’t mean to order a carrot cake muffin. I don’t want this.”

“Okay, relax!” he said, raising his voice. “I’ll get you something else.”

“I don’t want something else.”

“So, you just want your money back?”

I decided I was done wasting my time. I grabbed my boyfriend’s order, dumped the carrot cake muffin in the garbage, and walked out. I didn’t realize until I got in my car that my boyfriend’s order had been made with bacon instead of sausage.

My experience with Dunkin' is a bit of a mixed bag, and it seems to heavily depend on who's working and what time of day it is. In the mornings, when the staff seems fresh and the rush is on, the coffee and food are usually pretty good. My orders are typically accurate, and the quality of the donuts and breakfast sandwiches is what I expect from Dunkin'. The coffee is hot, and the flavors are consistent. However, as the day progresses, particularly in the afternoon and evening, the quality noticeably declines. It's not uncommon to receive lukewarm coffee, stale donuts, or sandwiches that seem hastily thrown together. I've also had issues with incorrect orders and long wait times during these later hours. It feels like the attention to detail and overall quality control significantly diminishes. It's frustrating because I enjoy Dunkin' when it's done right, but the inconsistency makes it hard to rely on. If you're planning a visit, I'd recommend going earlier in the day to maximize your chances of a positive experience. Hopefully, management can address the quality control issues during the later shifts to ensure a more consistent product for all customers. I always place a mobile order for walk in. Today that wasn’t an option and upon showing up the drive thru was out the road and not moving. After sitting for awhile I decided to walk in to check on my order since it had already been 15 minutes since I placed my order. Upon entering they were clearly severely short staffed for a Sunday morning but a young lady asked how we could be helped and I explained the situation and she got right on making our drinks.
