I visited Mariam Taste of Halal in Binghamton recently and had a disappointing experience. I politely asked one of the staff members if the meat they serve is zabiha halal, and instead of getting a respectful response, I was met with rude and sarcastic comments. The person said things like, “We only eat haram,” which was completely unnecessary and disrespectful for such a simple question.
I then asked another employee, who confirmed that the meat is not zabiha halal, but just labeled “halal.” For those who don’t know the difference, zabiha halal means the animal is slaughtered by a conscious Muslim by hand, with the proper prayers recited at the time of slaughter. On the other hand, a lot of “halal” meat in the U.S. is actually machine-slaughtered, where animals are killed by automated systems, and often without individual prayer.
Many Muslims, including myself, specifically follow zabiha standards, and it’s important for us to know how the meat is sourced. My issue wasn’t just with the meat—it was with the disrespectful attitude when asking a simple and valid question.
If you care about eating zabiha halal, I recommend checking elsewhere or calling ahead before...

I have been there in person too, the employees are pleasant to be around, they sell many different things for convenience, and groceries. Definitely ordering from there as much...
Read moreI ordered 2 dishes-the chicken over rice and samosa over rice. Two simple requests. No hot sauce and bring change. They gave hot sauce and did not bring change. In addition, the people who brought me the food lied. When I asked for change, they brought out their wallet and said they only had 3 dollars when I saw more singles in the wallet. This is not the first time. Last time, I asked for change and they ended up taking 4 dollars extra because they did not have change. Delivery drivers are supposed to bring about $20.00 in change. The business needs to reconsider their...
