St. Rocco's Bakery — Restaurant in City of Glen Cove

I’ve never posted a negative review, but then again I’ve also never been so utterly disappointed by a business in my life.

St Rocco’s pastries are yummy and not too sweet—so when my boyfriend’s birthday arrived I knew I had to order from here. I called on Monday evening and asked the nice gentleman on the phone if he could have a cake ready for me by Wednesday evening. He said no problem. I asked if they were willing to take orders on card since I was ordering from out of state. He said cash only. I was a bit disappointed, but continued to order a 10 inch fruit tart and asked him to print “Happy Birthday” and spelled out my boyfriend’s name for him. He then asked me what time I would be picking up the cake. I told him I wasn’t sure since I would be sending in a friend who lived in Glen Cove to pick up the cake—but it would be sometime after 4:00pm, at which time my friend could pay in cash. He said he would put me down for 5:00pm and my friend could visit any time between then and close of business (7:00pm). He then asked me for my first and last name and phone number in case anything was wrong with the cake. Before hanging up, I confirmed once again that my friend would pick up and pay for the cake in cash around 5:00pm.

Cut to Wednesday evening when my friend arrives—and lo and behold—my cake is nowhere to be found. My friend called me to tell me the situation…that St Rocco’s didn’t follow through with the order because they didn’t think I wanted to pay in cash. At this point it was nearly closing and I needed a cake ASAP, so even though it pained me to support this establishment after the mishap, I asked my friend to pick out whatever looked best in the display.

I’ve never heard of a bakery haphazardly canceling an order without confirmation. If they wanted to confirm the order, could they not have reached out on Wednesday morning via the contact information I conveniently provided? I was also highly disappointed by the lack of accountability this bakery showed—blaming the whole ordeal on my miscommunication. I guess the second time I spelt my boyfriend’s name so they can print it on the cake I didn’t sound financially committed enough. 🙃

The pastries at St. Rocco's are delicious but DO NOT ORDER A CUSTOM CAKE FROM THEM! I ordered a cake for my daughter's bridal shower from them and was very disappointed. When I ordered the cake, I gave them the invitation from the shower for decorating ideas. The day of the shower my husband went to pick up the cake and waited for over 30 minutes. The cake was supposed to say She's Tying the Knot and instead it said She's Trying the Knot. They tried fixing it but it came out looking like a 7 year old decorated the cake. Since time was of the essence, my husband took the cake. But when I saw the cake at the shower, I was totally embarassed. I had such high hopes getting the cake from St. Rocco's but I would have been better off just picking up a cake from Costco which would have looked better than what I served.

I reached out to St. Rocco's to express my disappointment and received an email back saying "how could they make it right" which I replied "at the very least a gift card would be appreciated." Never heard back.

Amazing cakes and pastries. They did my wedding cake for me and it turned out beautiful! The only complaint i have is that I asked for my decoration on both sides of my cake but I only got it on one. But other than that, they did a great job with my cake. It was exactly how I envisioned it in my head and it wasn't easy to get my vision across to the young lady who was taking my order. She had that little piece of paper just scribbling down my ideas and trying for it to make sense. So I'm SO GLAD they got my vision right. And the cake inside was AWESOME! So light and moist. I had a vanilla cake with cannoli filling and the top of the cake was marble cake with chocolate mousse filling. And it was so beautiful and so nice. Thank you to the amazing bakers at St. Rocco's. I also tried their pastries as well when I was comparing what flavor I wanted to do for my cake and their chocolate mousse is delicious!
