It was just ok. I tried them for the first time tonight- ordered through doordash. I thought I’d give it a shot, since I’ve been here for about a year and want to expand my regular rotation of local restaurants to patronize. I was hoping for some extraordinary pub food and was testing the waters to see if I should bring my boo to have beers and dinner here during a future date night. I have passed this place on foot during my jog sessions many a time and so I was intrigued.
I ordered the spinach artichoke dip ($12), real turkey club(16) with american cheese(+$1) plus a bottled birch beer, butter beer, and sarsaparilla ($2 each)
The spinach dip was not what I was expecting. It was very dry and reminiscent of plain cream cheese with lots of spinach folded in. It had the texture of being over baked or reheated- just very dry. Not much flavor, I thought to myself as I ate it that I thought it could benefit from a chicken bouillon cube or something. Luckily the house chips were addicting, super crunchy, salty and good enough to eat on their own.
The club was ok. The turkey may be “real” and roasted in house but there wasn’t much of it at all. I assume the use of the term “real” here is in relation to cold cuts. I will give them kudos for that, it was clearly hand carved. The sandwich was small compared to a standard club sandwich available at your local diner. The fries that came with it were super crunchy and dry- kinda like when you leave oven fries in too long.
I opened the birch beer to try tonight and it’s crisp and flavorful. I am curious to try the other two sodas.
In conclusion, I am disappointed by the amount of money I spent tonight on dry, bland food. I don’t know if I’ll get dinner here again but I would be inclined to stop by on one of my jogs this summer to have a soda as a treat. After all, I can’t think of another local establishment that has house brewed soft drinks on tap, and I think that’s novel and fun. I’d still be willing to give their ice cream and beer a try as well. I was between two and three stars but decided to go with 3 because there is clearly a spark there and I don’t want to tank their rating. If I could,...
Read moreWorking jobs all the way back to my teenage years, I remember two important rules:
The customer is always right. Whenever the customer is wrong, refer to Rule 1.
These rules seemed to be important to the management and staff at Cooper's Cave Ale Company, and I was proud to call myself a loyal customer of theirs for over a decade.
Until now.
Apparently it is now acceptable, and even defensible, for the staff to make multiple mistakes on the same order. This is not the first time such has happened lately to myself, and the family and friends to whom I have recommended this restaurant. On 2/25/23, one dish that we ordered included their soggy fries when it was made clear that fries were not wanted with the order, and another dish wasn't even included. Even their onion rings have gone soggy. When the manager on staff was confronted with these errors, he couldn't even be bothered to offer a sincere apology, treating me not as a valued customer but as an annoyance. His response was to claim that the cost of the entire dinner would be refunded and then to ban me from the restaurant after I had the gall to insist on an apology from him. Although the money was refunded, my silence respecting this disgrace of a restaurant will not be bought. Poor service and a refusal to take accountability for it has to have a consequence.
The quality of the food has gone downhill right along with the quality of people who work for this establishment. I no longer see any reason to return to this place, even if I was given an opportunity to do so for free.
Burger King or McDonald's would have been a better choice for a meal. At least there the prices are in line with the quality of the product and the staff in such places is generally courteous.
Stay away from Cooper's Cave Ale Company and take your money elsewhere. You'll be glad...
Read moreUse to live in Glens Falls years ago and use to be one of my favorite places to go. Don’t get the chance to come up now living just 20 miles away in Saratoga. However, was in the area twice this week and saw a couple reviews by others that are not in congruence with the experiences I use to have or the two experiences I had this week so I figured I’d write an appropriate review.
To be fair, I see some of the other reviews generally were talking bad about the owners which I had no interactions with. Sat at the bar both times and was served by a younger female bartender who was great as well as the other waitresses that helped me throughout my visits. Attentive, polite and most importantly they were competently handling the bar, dining room and quite an absurd amount of take out orders. Considering short staffing these days everywhere, I’d be pleased to have them working for me.
The food was great. Had a black and blue burger, maple chipotle wings, bluesberry beer, a lemon raspberry cake and coffee between my two visits. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and took what I would consider an appropriate amount of time to get to me. I’m a huge fan of wings, having a lot of family from Buffalo and their wings with that sauce is one of the better ones you will find outside of Western NY.
My only recommendation would be that both for the sake of the women who were working the pub and the patrons at the bar, that they come up with a better system for to go orders, door dash ect, bc the bar area is crowded enough with the kitchen door right there as well and it becomes a bit much for the staff, people picking up food and bar patrons.
High marks for food and staff and will go back soon when I’m in the...
