Kitty's Market! What can be said that hasn't already been said? How about a story of a woman I once knew who was also named Kitty? Her name was Kitty Malone and she was a tough cookie. She was missing one eye, one leg and had the most beautiful mustache I had ever seen. She worked at a factory that made canned tuna, her job was to inspect each can for faults before it was sent off to be enjoyed by all the canned tuna lovers of the world. How did I know her? She was dating my mother when I was just a young lad. Kitty met my mother when she saw her being robbed by some ruffian. Kitty sprang into action and began throwing tuna cans at the assailant. He quickly fled and my mother was left intact, Kitty came home that night for dinner with the family, she called me a nice young man and gave me a can of tuna. Kitty was a rough and tumble type of woman, she never knew how to express her emotions so she would always just use canned tuna as a means of getting her point across. If she gave you a can of tuna, she cared about you very much. If she threw a can of tuna at your head she was angry. If she opened a can of tuna seductively then that meant she wanted you the way a tuna wants to be canned. That night, while she enjoyed dinner, she looked my mother in the eyes and opened a can of tuna. She did so quite seductively though I did not understand at the time. Kitty came by quite often after that, she always brought canned tuna. On Christmas she even brought a canned honey ham and she stuffed my stocking with pickled eggs. Kitty was truly one of a kind and then she died in a tragic tuna canning accident. You see, one day while she was working the factory floor, her sleeve got caught in the canning machine and she got sucked inside. Her co-workers brought her to us, she had been stuffed into 37 cans of tuna. My mother was heartbroken and refused to ever eat canned tuna from that day forward. Sometimes when I'm in the grocery store I'll see a can of tuna and start sobbing uncontrollably, when people ask what's wrong I just tell them I'm a vegan. It's been seven years and I still can't get over the lack of pickled eggs in my stockings. I don't think my mother got over it either. This restaurant had a delicious breakfast sandwich that I highly recommend everyone try, but the name of the restaurant only brought back the memory of Kitty Malone. Even now, when I close my eyes I can still see the 37 cans of tuna being lowered into the ground for burial. She was a magnificent woman and this place has a magnificent breakfast sandwich. Some might say I shared too much information in this review, but alas, I am just a humble reviewer with a story to tell. Perhaps you too will one day visit this place and bite into their delicious breakfast sandwich. When you do, write a review and let the world...
Read moreKitty’s is a deliciously wonderful eatery. The greetings as you walk in the door are warm and filled with personality immediately putting you at ease as you’re directed towards your table which may be already set up if you’re lucky enough. From there the servers are friendly, welcoming and attentive as they recommend dishes like the mushroom croquettes, pea shoot dumplings and the Lamb Sugo. I went with the mushroom croquettes and the lamb sugo. The croquettes have a pop of mushroom that makes itself known from the moment you bite into the flaky, buttery, crusty exceptional exterior of the croquette. This appetizer is great to split with a date and finish with a lingering want for the next plate coming from the kitchen. That was the Lamb Sugo for me which was put on my table with elegant shavings of cheese that blanketed the Icelandic steam that was coming from the pasta and lamb, knowing that it was made to order and did not linger in the kitchen longer than it needed. The pasta was so satisfying that it brought you a cartoonish like feeling of pleasure. The quality of pasta and cook of the pasta was perfect. It was the kind of meal that feels like a rollercoaster you never want to end because it gave you so much dopamine. But alas you knew that every bite brought you one step closer to the end while you dream of having it on speed dial in the refrigerator for the next day. Kitty’s is a wonderful place for dinner solo, double or with the family. The ambiance was inviting, calm and manageable. I imagine the drinks do not disappoint either. If you have the chance in Hudson, put Kitty’s at the top of your...
Read moreVisiting from New York City. My husband and I were looking forward to trying this place since it’s on the corner of our hotel and the market was amazing! We had bought so much the previous night.
We waited for the hostess to approach us for a table for 2.
A woman with a French bob, black thick framed glasses, and red lipstick walked to make her way to the hostess stand she did not give us eye contact and passed by.
She then sort of acknowledged me. I kindly said table for two please. She pretended to look down and said it would not be possible, and remained quiet.
I then ask how long would it be? Which I was very confused as there was seating outdoors and two by the bar
All she said was that it just might not be possible.
We then said okay and exited.
We walked down and she then ran out and shouted “We have something outdoors!”
We said it was okay and made our way to what our first option.
I don’t know if this resturant is trying to keep a certain mid century modern waspy aesthetic. My husband and I felt embarrassed and discriminated against. Which is bizarre that it is right across the street from the Amtrak.
I don’t even believe it’s because of what we were wearing.
I don’t know if it was truly the chic French Bob hostess fault, or if someone in house saw us and told her to turn us away. It just did not feel very nice. When we wanted to try this place, plus we are great tippers ( your loss)
It’s so sad because we had not received this energy from any other place we have been to while our stay here.
Hurt, sad, disappointed,...
