Readers of my reviews know that I give it straight and have more positive than negative ones. Nautilus Nest is not a hotel as marketed in that it has only four rooms. ||||First, the good news! It is ideally located in Hudson, NY, just a few steps from Warren Street, the main shopping and restaurant thoroughfare. The bedroom area is spacious, yet the bathroom is small, with a relatively strong shower and a contemporary sink, but a mat with foreign matter. The queen-size bed was OK. There is a small area in the hall with ample chips and fruit. ||||That's about it! Then, it's downhill. What's with a green-stained washcloth under the slow-draining sink to catch slowly dripping water? A plumber, maybe? The room, with two relatively small windows, is dark and dingy, worsened by dark blue walls. Instead of a closet, there is a cheap-looking bellman's clothing rack that partially blocks one of the windows. ||||The in-window old fashion air conditioner unit did not work well, constantly turning off and making intermittent noise in the middle of the night. Cheap tape covered openings along the side. I am scratching my head about several 1 1/2" holes drilled in the room and hallway floors. If for ventilation, there are metal fittings that would be more attractive. ||||Furthermore, there is a pleasant sitting area outside the room, but when I looked up, I saw a rotted wood hole in the overhanging deck above.||||Michael–ostensibly the owner-had the audacity to ask for a 5-star review. I wouldn't give that even if he charged $150 a night instead of the outrageous $420 for a misrepresented...

Read moreNest is in a great location, close to shops and restaurants, and the rooms are spacious, comfortable, and clean. However, that's where the pros end. There is keyless entry, no onsite reception, and very few supplies on site. The owner sends numbers for "emergencies" but it was unclear who to contact in case of basic needs. For example, we left our room around noon and when I texted back the number which provided us with our check-in information to request our room be cleaned, there was no response and our room wasn't cleaned. Also, the owner is quite flippant with after hours requests. At around 7p, we ran out of toilet paper and the owner asked if we had kleenex tissues, prepping us to not expect someone to be able to come by that night. Luckily someone with housekeeping was able to come by, but it didn't give me any confidence that someone would have responded if it was later. If you're not going to have a person on-site, one would at least expect a supply closet stocked in case someone needs something. Finally, this is essentially an old house so it is extremely noisy. We consistently heard loud walking, above and in the hallway, and whole conversations of other guests. We were also woken up at 2am due to someone walking around in the hallway, from presumable a night out. So if you're looking for an AirBnB/nice hostel style room to rest while out and about, this is for you. However, if you're looking for somewhere relaxing, this isn't it. I...
