We were very thankful they took our group of 6 on a Sunday afternoon. We really enjoyed how lovely the building was and the outside space. The espresso drinks and hot chocolate were very good and the handcrafted mugs were a delight.
The food was hit and miss. The spaghetti squash with eggs and the Croque Madame was very good and they were unique and refreshing items to offer. The egg sandwich was very small and plain without meat, for the price, and the poached egg that came with the avocado toast was brought to the table broken. The ham and cheese croissant was horrid. I thought at first it was wrapped in a brown bakery paper like a muffin, but it turned out that it was the ham, and the whole thing was hard as a rock. When asked why it wasn't eaten the person I was with said they thought maybe it was too stale to eat (due to the hardness) the server was a bit combative and said a little rudely that it was baked fresh that day. Whatever the case, it wasn't something she found edible. I know it's from the bakery section but I think that it might've been better if it could be warmed up somehow.
The other issue was the time it took to get our food. It did seem that the orders went to the kitchen in the wrong order as many bigger groups who came in very long after us were served before us (and our server confirmed it.) The focaccia we ordered for the table never came out and when we asked where it was, we were told they were out. Which is fine, of course, but you should tell us straight away, don't make us have to ask. We ordered the sourdough in place of it which was also not warm and extra hard and not cut through all the way so we kind of struggled sharing it.
Again all of these things are not the biggest deal but it is nice to have a server/restaurant who wants to make it better and feels at least somewhat apologetic. Take the uneaten item off of the bill without being asked, offer a little something in return for the added wait time, something, ya know? We know it isn't the server's fault if the kitchen forgot about us, but we didn't feel taken care of and it left the experience feeling pretty meh when we had started the day there...
Read moreBad experience, unfortunately. We have been here twice: a few years ago in the summer and today in the fall. Our first visit wasn't good, and this time we'd meant to go to Tanzy's across the street, which ended up being closed. We decided to give Le Perche another chance.
The hostess was exhausted, grumpy, and had an attitude with several customers and coworkers. She even yelled at her coworkers behind the bar! I understand that job can be stressful, but she shouldn't be placed at the front if she can't at least pretend to be pleasant and polite. When we entered, she appeared annoyed we had no reservation, though there were empty tables.
Once we sat, we noticed the hostess had a tone of annoyance with many customers who didn't have reservations, which didn't make sense as she was complaining about all the reservations that were no-shows. The rest of the staff appeared exhausted/yawning often but were polite.
Our table in front was loud due to noise behind the coffee bar and cold since people kept leaving the door open. Our meals took almost an hour to get to us (around 12-1 on a Sunday).
Food was on the expensive side and not worth it. Portions felt small, and taste was average to a little below average (breads were all way too dry). Someone ordered a baguette and wasn't told until after it came that they were out of jam. Croissant with chocolate had dry bread that wasn't soft enough with a tiny bar of chocolate in the center, which was hard rather than melted/warmed.
There were a few bees flying around inside behind our table and that landed on the plates a couple of times. Not a huge deal, but it's the combination of all of the above that ruined our visit...
Read moreExpensive and noisy place in a converted row house. Came here for brunch recently and it was packed. Too many barking dogs allowed in the dining area. Some off menu items include dog bite toast and a side of pomme de la rue on the floor. I’m not a fan of doggy bag cafes…
Friendly wait staff, prompt service once seated. Standard brunch menu items of avocado toast and the like, also some more French haute cuisine options. Menu starts at Manhattan prices and up, not Upstate, like where Hudson is.
The fresh bread is good, but the croissants and viennoiserie that I was looking forward to trying are nothing to write home about. Their joke of a kouign amann tasted more like a bland, tasteless, doughy, diet pastry made with margarine than anything that remotely resembles a Breton butter cake. Kouign amanns start with flour and water and are made with sugar, salt, and lots of butter. Their’s was lacking in all three.
Also, the cafe workers were rude and need to learn some basic customer service skills. My transaction took about fifteen seconds once they reluctantly looked over at me and took my money for a croissant that wasn’t worth the money to begin with. Ridiculous.
Overall, I wouldn’t come back. Too many pet dogs and too overpriced for being in Hudson. This isn’t Brooklyn. I realize many people are weekenders and bring their dogs as a plus one, but most of these are not service dogs. Go outside to the patio or leave...
