If , like me, you’re traveling and excited about finally finding a vegan diner w hearty meals and vegan dishes that are never plant based such as biscuits and gravy , or chicken and waffles , keep dreaming and don’t give this restaurant your money. ( I’m so sad I did after my experience- this is your warning to look elsewhere in Ithaca). Despite them being mask wearers ( yes still 🥴🥴) and urging you to wear one , charging 15 % gratuity to pay their staff even though they don’t wait on their customers ( which I knew about and looked past ) and despite their food being somewhat good , there customer service and staff is awful. They could have created the best food I’d ever eaten and I still wouldn’t return nor would I recommend this place to anyone! I was dining and and ordered two meals , and while ordering asked about their cheesesteak bc I said I might get one to go bc I was traveling and would love to have another vegan meal for later . He said it was good - but seemed annoyed and very short w me . My mom and I ate our meals - they were ok, her tofu on the breakfast sandwich was very thick and had no flavor . I got up to order the vegan cheese steak to go with no mushrooms or green peppers and this same “man” who helped me before said no, you can’t change it . ( again very rudely ) I asked why, he told me it would be too confusing for the guy making the ‘to go’ orders. I think my jaw hit the counter . I said , while trying not to laugh, ok can I just get it plain, no confusion then- just simply one with no toppings other than cheese —- pretty simple right?? ( and it’s going to a patron already inside who just ate there !!) he said no… he doesn’t want to confuse any orders that are ‘to go’. Hahaha omg sooo , everyone in the restaurants food and everyone who is getting food to go, all different items can be figured out and stay linked with the ticket item, but a cheesesteak or anything modified to go would be lost amongst the other orders ?!! What a rude entitled staff. How unorganized is the cooking behind the scenes that you’re so afraid of mixing one order with another ?? I’m also assuming if I or anyone had an allergy to certain foods they wouldn’t be willing to leave it out . Very poor performance on there end . What a joke of an excuse … im mad I didn’t modify it for eat in and then immediately ask for a to go container since the take out orders are the ones they’re afraid of sending home w the wrong person. 🤣🤣 I don’t care how your food tastes - your costumer service , unwillingness to accommodate people very enthusiastic and willing to spend money on your establishment, and sorry excuses outweigh any ounce of goodness I once saw.
I did however leave my dishes at the table for someone to clean up and earn the 15% I paid them that the owner will not 😎cheers and...

This family-friendly diner is a local favorite, offering a menu full of classic American dishes that feel like something you’d find at a grandma’s kitchen table—simple, satisfying, and always comforting.
The star of Angelhearts Diner is its all-day breakfast menu, which is perfect for those craving a hearty start to their day. The pancakes here are thick, fluffy, and delicious—served with butter and syrup that makes each bite feel like a little piece of heaven. If you're in the mood for something savory, the country fried steak with gravy is a must-try, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, topped with rich, flavorful gravy that adds the perfect finishing touch.
Aside from breakfast, their classic diner burgers are another standout. The cheeseburger is juicy and perfectly cooked, served with crispy fries and a pickle on the side—simple, yet absolutely satisfying. The grilled cheese is also a fan favorite, especially when paired with a hot cup of coffee or a side of their creamy tomato soup.

It’s the kind of place where you can easily strike up a conversation with the regulars or just enjoy a quiet meal in a corner booth. Read moreIthaca went through some lean years for vegans after ABC Cafe closed, but Angelhearts Diner has set everything right in the world once again, while raising the bar for quality vegan meals to unprecedented levels. The restaurant itself is simply beautiful. It's super clean with a classic 1950s-style decor, and everything is brand new since they just opened in late 2019. The food is off the charts, and I'd go so far to say that their breakfast offerings outdo anything served in Manhattan. I had the breakfast burrito and a couple biscuits with jam, with a bottomless cup of excellent coffee. Man oh man! Everything was so delicious and the sausage in the breakfast burrito and on the full plate was about the most delicious vegan meat I've ever eaten. My non-vegetarian dining companion was equally impressed by the food.
I was only in town for a day so I made sure to come back for lunch and their house-made veggieburger was one of the best I've ever had. Kim, the lady who opened the place with her son, has an incredible work ethic and really puts her soul into this place. I've eaten at vegan restaurants in almost every state and more than 20 countries, and Angelhearts was one of the best and most memorable dining experiences of my life. If I lived in Ithaca I'd eat breakfast here several...
