Rashida Sawyer Bakery — Restaurant in City of Ithaca

A horrible experience with Rashida Bakery. I ordered a dozen cupcakes a month in advance for my son on his birthday. They called 24 hours before his birthday to tell me they could not deliver on a Sunday. They are closed and they can deliver on Saturday. No apology at all. After expressing my disappointment, they said they would see if someone could deliver and call me back. The dozen cupcakes were costing $67, which was already ridiculous. I called another bakery in Ithaca who was not only willing to make the cupcakes and deliver them on Sunday but they also provided two dozen cupcakes for what Rashida was charging me for one dozen. They did eventually call back and said they could deliver on a Sunday - JUST THIS ONE TIME and I told them that I found someone else to do it. Keep in mind - this was their error scheduling a delivery on a day they are not open, yet I was made to feel like I made the error. I fully charged for the cupcakes anyway and when I recently called to be reimbursed they said they would not reimburse me because they had offered to deliver them. Yes - they did - hours after they told me that they would not deliver on a Sunday with 48 hours until my son's birthday. This bakery is rude, overpriced, and dishonest. I was charged for cupcakes I never received after being told they could not deliver them on the date I had set weeks before. I will NEVER order anything from this bakery again and I will ensure that everyone at my son's university on social media who looks to order something from a bakery for their child hears this story. Following up to the comment from Rashida Sawyer Bakery, the individuals who were rude and disgusting were you and your employees. Your bakery made an error and refused to apologize for it and offered no other fix than to deliver it on the wrong day. Only after I expressed my disappointment did someone look into having them delivered on a Sunday. If you want to cover up your bad business practices, rude customer service, and dishonest transactions by name-calling your customers, lying about the incident, and blaming them for your errors, well, then I do not need to say anymore. You have underscored my horrible review of your bakery and staff.

I’ve been coming to Rashida Sawyer Bakery for years now. I was ecstatic to see you now have a stand at the Farmer’s Market, and decided to write my long overdue review. Wonderful service, and its so nice that the owner and family often work up front. The cakes are outstanding, especially the pound cake, which is moist and has a slightly crackly golden exterior. I’ve gotten my birthday cake here for the past couple of years, and the red velvet cake is moist and decadent with delicious cream cheese frosting. The star, of course, is the cheesecake. Putting nuts in a graham cracker crust is a stroke of genius, the filling is creamy and tangy, and the fruit always tastes fresh and doesn't have the goopy texture fruit toppings often do. My family was visiting the Finger Lakes for a family vacation and happened to be celebrating three birthdays that week. We ordered three cakes from Rashida Sawyer Bakery and they were all home runs. first we had the cheesecake. Since it was for an 80 year old, I didn’t get the walnut crust. But everyone agreed it was one of the best cheesecakes we had ever had. two days later we ordered a 9” two layer strawberry cake. Excellent! But what really was the talk of the dinner table was the dinner rolls. They look like biscuits but tasted like excellent dinner rolls. Everyone was wanting to toast the leftover rolls the next day for breakfast! finally was had a 6” Black Forest cake two days after that. Again, an outstanding cake!
