Read moreApologies in advance if this doesn’t reach the right audience, but this is review is for vegans. Their other stuff could be good, but I would not recommend this place for vegans (especially because Middle Eastern food tends to be very vegan friendly).
Wraps are not vegan as they use butter for them. As usual at any restaurant that doesn’t accommodate to vegans, the only vegan options at the time were fries and salads. I had the fries without cheese and aioli and the frekeh salad. Honestly, it all tasted fine/good but was way too expensive and too small of a portion. Especially if Lev kitchen boasts in Ithaca press that they hope to fill the gap of grab and go food on the Commons. (I used to work on the Commons and can list plenty of other, cheaper, just as fast/faster, food alternatives. Maybe Commons workers are making more these days but I wouldn’t have been able to afford this or feel full enough to keep up with a full work day.)
Also, their lack of vegan options is a little disappointing for a place that boasts about sustainability and eating veggies/legumes/fruits in recent articles. (But hey, everyone thinks about sustainability differently.)
I normally don’t give reviews for restaurants but I think this place can improve if they focused more on their core values. Perhaps more vegan options (to promote more plant consumption and sustainability) and a lunch special (to make food affordable for...
Read moreLev Kitchen has got to be one of the best restaurants in Ithaca. Although a tiny space there is so much flavor, so much atmosphere, so much passion within these walls. Having eaten here both dine in and to go, I have never had a negative experience.
The Kennebec French Fries are divinely out of this world. The herbaceousness of the scallion and cilantro paired with the cool creaminess of the chèvre, the heat of the pickled fresnos, and the salty smoky sweet Urfa aioli make for an absolute perfect dish.
The falafel in the malawach was fried beautifully with the refreshing zing of the pickled onion on a hot day. The malawach wrap itself was hearty, filling, without being too heavy. It was light while being crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
In the past I have had the beet salad, which is near perfectly refined within itself. However this was last year and I assume their menu has variations to accommodate seasonality. Thank you for a memorable meal that makes a Culinarian...
