Short stop deli has me short on patience. They have the most complicated ordering system. Ever. I just wanted meatball parm and a chicken parm sandwiches. I told that to the guy behind the counter and instead of taking my uncomplicated totally normal order, they make you fill out a ticket. To make it more complicated you have to fill out the right ticket. There are four. I was never a waiter and it seemed like they want the customer to do the waitstaff/ order staff job. There wasn’t a line. The place wasn’t busy. They didn’t have patience to walk us through the ordering process. Instead he knew what I was going to order before hand ( because I already told him) and said two hot sandwiches are coming up to the kitchen staff. Then they watched me struggle to figure out how to fill out the form. Was too complicated. In short, Service was lacking. Noting when the food came out, The chicken parm tastes like an overgrown chicken nugget. The sandwich wasn’t hot. I circled hot. It came luke warm at best This place is weird. The processes are weird. Everything, weird.

Shortstop Deli has been a local institution since 1978. They operate a deli counter and convenience store with a large selection of sandwiches and snacks. They use a ticket system for ordering, which can be a little confusing if it’s your first time here. What you want to do is go up to the counter and grab a ticket. If you want a regular sandwich, you’ll want the one labeled “Ithaca style sub.” They also have tickets for breakfast sandwiches (which are really delicious) and pizza subs. Once you have your ticket, mark down what you want and give the white copy to the person making sandwiches and the yellow carbon copy to the cashier to pay. They’ll call your name when your sandwich is done. I usually take mine to go and eat it in the park, but they have tables there if you want to eat inside. I really can’t recommend this place enough! The sandwiches are always delicious and you absolutely have to try their giant cookies! I’d go so far as to say that they’re the best sandwich shop in town.

Very solid corner store that makes some pretty good sandwiches. I came here with lofty expectations after what I had heard from other people, but I can't say that those expectations were met. I've been here twice now - I got pulled pork (pictured below) and BBQ chicken. There is no seating, so this is naturally a takeout type restaurant. Service was quick and prices were fair (8 inch subs are roughly $10 and 12 inches is roughly $15, depending on what you get in the sub). Taste was good, but not great. Presentation really isn't their forte, but that is alright. I prefer DiBella's subs in a vacuum, but they've got their own issues of their own. The pork was well-seasoned, but the whole package just didn't seem to come together and deliver something that is truly rememberable. I went back after the first time, so I like it, but it did not meet my lofty expectations.

The team at the Short Stop Deli maintain one of the largest selections of flavored coffees I've seen in Ithaca! As a coffee common-sewer they supply a choice of several flavored creamers right out of what looks to be their cooler. And whipped cream! No empty creamer dipenser machines for these guys!! You know the ones I mean...you start at the French Vanilla, move down to the half 'n half, finally desperate for some creamer of some sort, you settle for whole milk and all yield only drops to tease you! Finally left very unsatisfied and quite frustrated you turn to opening up a ship pile of individual flavored containers! Does a dairy product that doesn't need to be refrigerated qualify as creamer? What is that? All be it pricey, the Short Stop Deli is in a league of it's own with a vast selection of local favorites. My favorite sub is the "SUI". It was created by a guy by the name of Louie who has a hot truck up on the Cornell campus. In fact you'll fill out the "Hot Truck" menu ticket and hand the white copy of your ticket to the guy or gal over the counter, who will make your sandwich fresh for you. Retain the yellow copy to hand the cashier when you check out. As you wait for your most awesome lunch, you are now free to multi-task as you go make a most awesome cup of Joe, while waiting for your gourmet masterpiece to be completed. The "SUI" consists of French garlic bread, crumbled sausage, a smattering of tomatoes sauce, pepperoni slices, topped by mozzarella cheese, and then toasted to perfection! There is also a whole host of add -ons for an additional price. Depending on my mood sometimes bananna peppers! There is a soda fountain, as well as your standard drink selection in the cooler. There is also a selection of "help yourself" soups, hot mac n' cheese, and chili! The soup selection you'll discover as you make your way down the center isle towords the beverage cooler in the back of the store.Yes comfort food on these now very cold Ithaca winter days. The hot food will definately warm you up from inside out, and will leave you full and satisfied! Don't forget desert! Answer the call of the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie on the rack just to your left as you pay. You can't miss them they are the ones with the beams of sunlight shining down and a choir of angels singing in the back ground. How they know your name too, is just a mystery to me! Enjoy your visit to the Short Stop Deli. I certainl...

This would have been a easy 5 star rating if the customer service was better. I went to place my order and the young lady with tattoos on wrist is the one who took my order. I explained to her I wanted my sub ran through the belt oven twice. She began to talk over me and Tell me I get it you want it toasted extra crispy . Well I was the only person in line important to know , my sub came out and I requested again please run it twice , she said if she ran it twice it burn so she folded the sub and stuck it in for the third time while baby sitting it ........ see where I'm going with this ? That belt oven bakes food while be ran through the oven . My point is prioritize your time in the restaurant business. Imagineif you were busy . I've been in restaurants since I was 12 busting tables and doing dishes. I'm been a sous chef and a assistant chef for over 10 years in fine dining restaurants. But people's pride and the fact that cooking is becoming less and less of a skill because of machines is the reason I got out and run my own business with animals. People need to listen to what the customer wants and be open to suggestions. It's unbelievable how people don't even do that any more. On a positive not the sub was good. And I will stop bye again. I just wanted to post this complaint so it can be handled differently next time. No worries still the best sub and bank for...

I have been to Shortstop many times before, but have never had an experience like this one. Upon asking a question of a staff member, I was spoken to in a way that was disrespectful, belittling, and completely unacceptable! The way I was spoken to was upsetting and hurtful, which ruined my experience before I even received my order. (Which wasn't even correct!!) Furthermore, my question was not even answered! When I questioned how he had talked to me and my family, I was met with an apparent zero interest in resolving the issue and was instead told, "Just learn to read bro." I consider this to be completely unacceptable and I can only describe it with one word; disappointing. I was left agitated to an extent that ruined any interest I had in eating my food; my experience was ruined. I DID eat shortly after leaving the establishment, but even the sandwich was made with stale bread and the wrong toppings, leaving me distraught.

As I said, I have been to this restaurant many times over the years. It is a fond, annual destination of mine during my vacation time to Ithaca. However, this experience has left my memories of this place tainted, and my feeling toward future visits here immensely damaged. A disappointing experience from a...
