Best Indian around! This food is medicinal! The chef cooks the spices and herbs properly. The food has a very nice heat! I’ll definitely be looking into the cooking classes that the owner provides. I’m surprised I didn’t discover this place sooner. The owner is very sweet and present. There are daily changes in the menu which are up on the Instagram. Today is Tikki Masala and I definitely will be visiting today just to try it. There were daily drinks as well, such as, Golden milk, mango lassi and a iced mint tea! I appreciated the items sold in the store which was a great mix of Asian cuisine and some other cute items like flower seeds, gardening books and even handmade incense. There was even my favorite spice Asafoetida powder which isn’t often sold in stores. Asafoetida is a special flavor that usually isn’t mentioned in recipes online but is the unique flavor that is found in certain south Asian meals. I previously had to go to Hyde park just to get it! There are even fresh curry leaves in the refrigerator! Now I can make my own curries which I love to do! While there is a lot packed into this tiny place there is still plenty of room and a comforting charm of energy here. Check it...
Read moreThe name of the restaurant has attracted us since we're Bengali. The mini grocery was really cute. We brought mango cutney, nimbu pani, and chips. The mango chutney was good. The nimbu pani had some extra black salt in it for my taste preferences, but my spouse liked it. I tried the sample rice dessert, but the rose essence took over the main flavor of the dish, so we didn't order it. We had mughlai chicken, rice, pickles, and lentils.
Mughlai chicken: too much oil mixed with the curry itself, which is why it was hard to taste the currys' flavor itself. Mughlai chicken is a thicker based curry in general. I think the nut paste and yogurt could've been cooked more. It truly lacked flavor from my end.
Lentil: tasted better with the pickles
Pickle: I was told that it would be mango pickle, but it had other vegetables in it. Wish it was homemade, but it was Deep branded pickles served.
I think it was a hit & miss from our end as they have different dishes on different days. I think we'll call in advance to ask what they're serving for next time. I will tell others in NYC to stop by the store if they're around this area. No refund is necessary as I see the owner offering refunds to...
Read moreNote that I write this review as I’m still sitting at my table; the food is so good that I’m giving this place a 5 star review in real time 🤤
I was a bit apprehensive about the steep price point for what seemed to be a small platter of food, but as soon as I had the first bite of chickpeas, I was sold a million times over. I went all in and got myself the chicken/chickpea combo with a side of yogurt sauce, all of it equally amazing! The chicken had enough of a kick that I didn’t even need to open up the small container of chili sauce this comes with (choose your own adventure, I personally can’t hang with lots of spiciness). The portions are actually pretty solid, but do keep in mind that a combo runs about $20 so maybe not something you’re picking up regularly if you’re trying to be thrifty.
This place is the real deal when it comes to Indian food in the area (I’d even argue it rivals some of the spots in NYC). A must try in...
