I want to start off this review by saying that I decided to visit Sissy's Cafe based off of multiple recommendations from Friends when I had asked for a good place to get breakfast. I went out of my way to drive here and try their food because of the responses that I got. I walked in and I was greeted right away and my order was taken quickly. The food came out in a reasonable time frame and was very tasty. The unfortunate part of my visit was when one of the employees who is an African American woman thought it would be a good idea to have a conversation with an African American female customer about a show on Netflix called dear white people. Now I have no idea what the show is about, but I can only surmise that it is a liberal leftist attempt to portray white people and every single thing that they do as racist. As soon as they started their conversation I immediately tuned them out and ignored them because it boiled my blood instantly. Now the double standard here is that if I was talking to another white male about a show called dear black people, I feel confident that there would have been a conflict. It was not a smart move from a business perspective to have that type of conversation in front of customers, especially white customers who are sitting literally within Arm's Reach of you. Although the food was good, I will never return to this establishment based off of the experience I had there. Hopefully someone at the cafe reads this, and they realize that if you want to run a successful business you act as a professional every single day.
*Update: after posting this review (which I originally gave 3 stars because the food was good) a regular customer of Sissy's spoke to the employees at Sissy's and they were all "offended" by my post so she reached out to me on Facebook messenger and began to attack me and call ME racist (the hypocrisy of the liberal left). So they now get a 1 star review because instead of opening their eyes and realizing that they made a mistake, they do further damage by harrassing me on Facebook messenger. STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THESE LIBERAL WACKJOBS!!! The most unprofessional thing I have ever...
Read moreAITA? I am currently disabled and I went to this cafe because UTC was closed and it had a 4.7 star rating. I got there before 11 am and picked a small table in the back plugged my laptop on the many outlets around the wall and ordered a small hot coffee being they don’t have espresso. I was working on homework and drinking my coffee. A little after noon on a rainy Sunday afternoon I bought large coffee being I was going to stay a bit longer. The counter even gave me a 2$ instead of 3$ coffee charge. No one seemed bothered that I was enjoying my coffee and working on hw. A little after 1pm abruptly a lady comes to be and says someone needs a table. I hadn’t finish the large second coffee I most recently paid for. The responds was this isn’t “that type of cafe” “you can’t do work here” “there are other cafes you can do work at”. I honestly didn’t know they are “not that type of cafe” because I was and still and understanding what that means. AITA? I went to Kitchen and bar traumatized I overstayed my welcome at a cafe. Recommendation: at my second purchase of coffee maybe gently give me a reminder that I have a time limit of… Instead of abputptly having my chug my coffee and gather myself as a disabled person into the rain 🌧️ Or mark the warning on the outlets all over the wall And avoid “you cannot work here” terminology you might be a company this is still a...
Read moreWhat can I say? I love the breakfast burritos at Sissy's so much that I had breakfast here everyday of my trip to Kingston. Day One I had the Southwestern with Bacon on a Gluten Free Wrap (Egg, Cheddar, Avocado, Salsa, Beans) with AquaVitea Kombucha in Hibiscus Ginger Lime. Totally delicious and honestly the only time I've had a gluten free breakfast burrito ANYWHERE and it rocked. It even had the beautiful lines from the panini press! Day 2 I had the Country Burrito on the Gluten Free Wrap (Eggs, Cheddar, Bacon and Cajun Potatoes) with the freshly squeezed OJ. The Country Burrito is my new favorite--a perfect, simple breakfast that I can't wait to order again on my next trip to Kingston. The OJ was a delicious accompaniment.
The staff is taking every COVID precaution: masks inside for all and strongly encouraged for guests, only outdoor seating for now (for reference it is late October '21). So happy to support this business and to return after coming here in February 2020, right before the pandemic hit. Now my question is: what brand of gluten free tortillas do they use? Sissy's has seriously set the standard for breakfast burrito perfection and makes sure the gf crowd isn't missing out...
