WEEKEND GUIDE: KINGSTON, NY I love this little town so much-- have been 4x over the last few years, and it's the perfect weekend getaway from NYC! Here are my fave spots: STAY @hotelkinsley -- I brought my mom here for a weekend and then J and I stayed here this past trip, and I couldn't love it more. There are rooms across several historic buildings, and there's such attention to detail in every unique room (and heated bathroom floors!). One of my fave boutique hotels I've ever stayed at! EAT + DRINK @villagecoffeeandgoods -- this is a must-stop for me with great coffee, a ton of local baked goods (usually a couple GF/vegan options!), lots of great breakfast/lunch options, pantry goods from local businesses, and beautiful ceramics from local makers. @sweetmaresas -- a vegan bakery (they had some GF options, but nut-based!) that's also full of fun pantry goods and a great assortment of beverage options. @yumyumnoodlebar -- this is a local favorite and has GF options! @brunettewinebar -- a gorgeous little wine bar with so many fun varieties and lots of great bites too. @kingstonbread -- a super popular bakery/cafe (not really GF-friendly tho!) in town. SHOP @rivermintfinery -- a higher-end shop with beautiful clothes, jewelry, and candles. @hamiltonandadams -- a great shop with clothing for all, lots of fun upstate gifts/souvenir-type items that aren't cheesy, and is so fun to browse. @florabeauty_newyork -- skincare services, lots of cleaner beauty products, and some wellness goods too! @bluecashewkitchen -- for kitchen / food / drink lovers, I could stay in here for hours browsing all the trinkets. @esterwine -- such an amazing wine + spirits shop with so much variety and the friendliest staff! @shopcapitalvintage -- a really cool vintage spot with clothes, home goods, and more. Bark & Biscuit -- for all the dog parents out there, you gotta get something for your pup here. Half Moon Books -- classic bookstore that's full of every genre. @roughdraftny -- a dream place that has coffee, beer, cider, ample room, and shelves full of books. built in a historic academy building and has such a nostalgic feel! · #minnaly #TravelingMinnaly #upstateny

I really wanted to enjoy this place-- I'm a huge fan of Noodles and hears decent reviews. TL;DR- The food was flavorless, but the atmosphere was nice. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed. Food: The Pork Buns were the highlight, with a solid flavor profile of the pork belly-- the buns felt on the verge of being stale/chewy. I ordered the Braised Pork Udon with Chicken & Pork Broth, and my partner ordered the Bibimbap. My noodles, while chewy in texture, had absolutely no flavor. The saving grace was the braised Pork, which was clouded by the lackluster broth encompassing it. I felt like I had to douse it in Sriracha for a small semblance of flavor. Even just a dash of black vinegar would have made a world of a difference. The Bibimbap was good at first bite, but as you went deeper there was no flavor other than the cheesy rice (knowing there isn't cheese in there, both my partner and I felt like it tasted like cream cheese). The Miso broth was flavorful, but very salty. Again, I really wanted to enjoy it but it is not in the cards based on this experience. The atmosphere was cool, but the wait staff were slammed with a full house and seemed very overwhelmed. Not a poor experience, just wish they had another person available to help them out. Definitely wouldn't recommend, sad I wasted my birthday dinner here.

Yum Yum Noodle Bar is Amazing ramen / asian fusion spot with AMAZING vegan choices! Their menu is mostly meat focused but they have MANY vegan choices & clearly labeled how to vegan modify a dish. We stopped in for weekend dinner & LOVED it! Place was busy but we snagged an outdoor seat. Their menu has lots to choose from including clearly labeled vegan choices! They offer ramen (of many varieties) as well as bites, noodle dishes & rice dishes. What our table got: - chicken ramen. Big bowl of delicious noodles, seasoned broth, fresh veggies & properly cooked chicken. - veggie dumplings (vegan). Crispy. Lots of flavor. Was a perfect appetizer for the table - vegan pad Thai. The pad Thai dish can be made vegan (as per the menu!) The portion was large with plenty of delicious noodles, loaded in sauce, fresh veggies & house made seitan (mock meat) It was delicious, filling & flavorful! The sauce was perfect with the veggies & noodles. - pickled veggies super crispy, fresh & a perfect side to the vegan Thai dish! - Thai iced coffee (vegan) with coconut milk. So delicious. We LOVED our dinner at Yum Yum Noodle Bar! Seriously, super fresh & amazing Asian fare. The vibe was chill. Food was great. And the clearly vegan labeled items were a hit!

Dear future & current customer, wait staff and management: I am writing about an upsetting experience I had at yum yum in Kingston. First: this experience happened about 2 months ago and I have struggled trying to figure out Whether to report it or not but it still weighs on me so here goes: At the time of my negative encounter--I had been a regular customer and had never experienced any "issues". I ordered a light dinner, my wait person was a gem. I gave her my debit card when it was time to pay. Long story short: my card was denied. I said to the wait person that I had checked my balance first and there was plenty of $$ to cover my meal. I didn't have cash and that I would come by in the morning to pay what I owed. She had to tell some manager type what was going on. So a few minutes later this intense woman comes storming out of the kitchen and insists I pay NOW or (get this) she will call the POLICE !!! I kid you not. I was shocked. She said that SHE would have to pay my bill if I didn't pay her NOW. I said (without losing my cool once) that the best I could do was to call my brother (WHO LIVES IN NEVADA) and he would pay my check over the phone. I had that meal paid for within 15 minutes. My brother is a lawyer and was stunned that they were threatening to call the police on me (a friendly regular customer). And dear readers: my check was for $15.00 !!!! This is a long review and I'm almost done: I decided to give them a second chance and returned about 4-6 weeks later. Immediately some Kitchen person approached me and said: If you want to eat here---you must select your meal and pay CASH FIRST before you eat...!!!This was no one I recognized and I looked at her in disbelief and said I gotta better idea: keep your food along with your lousy customer service . I will go some- where else. I did and had a lovely experience. My brother gave me some good advice: If ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS TO YOU AGAIN: Let the Police come. All they have to do is look at you and talk to you for 30 seconds and they will be asking you if they can help YOU in anyway. BTW: The food is good but generally overpriced. Thanks for...

DISAPPOINTED. Ate here with my girlfriend twice. First time was great. Kind of pricey, but the food is so good.

The second time I parked out front in a defined parking spot that was similar to all the others expect there’s two tiny signs next to this spot that aren’t fairly visible. They’re banged up and falling over, that apparently say that this specific spot is a loading zone and we ended up getting a ticket. It should have yellow lines on the ground indicating it is a loading zone not white ones like normal spots, but I digress (not completely Yum Yum’s fault but you’d think they wouldn’t want their customers getting fined for poor zone indication).

The food was good but got the bill and saw additional cost that we didn’t get last time. My gf both times got a noodle bowl which comes with CHOICE of noodle, broth, AND protein (chicken, beef, braised pork, etc) and it costs extra for pork belly, shrimp, etc. so my gf got chicken (Standard) and added pork belly ($3 extra). This time they charged $5 for chicken (which was the standard option that is included) and $3 for pork belly PLUS the price of the bowl as well. When we questioned the waitress why she added the $5 chicken she said “that’s just how it is” (kind of arrogantly) but she said she could deduct the extra charge (we assumed the $5 chicken since it was a standard option) but instead she deducted the cheaper $3 pork belly. Our bill was $80 and it seemed like a shot in the back for not at the least dropping the $5 and maybe even the $3 for the confusion, but that’s up for discretion. I still left a $13 tip on a $80 bill but I was not happy with the service.

I’ve worked at an Italian restaurant for ~7 years and if someone orders example: Chicken Caesar Salad and wants to add shrimp we don’t charge for the chicken and shrimp just the shrimp because it isn’t in that salad.

IN CONCLUSION: Great food Unclear menu options Bill can add up quick if not careful Blotchy waitressing (gave us an attitude when we questioned the price...

If I could leave no stars I would. I will start with the positives for this place. We were seated quickly and were given a perfect amount of time to review the menu. I ordered the sake toddy (which was boozie but would not order again) and the special which was tofu in a Thai chili sauce with veggies and jasmine rice. The orders were placed and brought out in a timely manner. The smell of my dinner was wonderful and the first few bites were absolutely delicious! My third bite in I saw something black and thought weird maybe a burnt piece of broccoli. Upon further inspection it was a dead roach. I called the waitress over and showed her what I found. They took it back to the kitchen and showed the cook staff and gave me a moment to describe what I would like instead. I was suggested the burger and I ordered that, though to be honest I was not feeling any kind of hunger. I did take a tiny bite and the flavor of the meat was good though the salad was over dressed with dressing. Once dinner was complete I was given a box for my essentially untouched meal. No restaurant staff came to check on me and my thoughts on the burger. I took the bill and was surprised that they only took the amount for the dinner with the roach off ($10.20) and still expected me to pay the remaining amount on the bill that was due for the burger (burger was $15; after the “discount” still owed $4.80 +tax). Being a non fan of confrontation I did pay the bill with a 20% tip. I don’t want to take money out of anyone’s pocket, but I’ve lost my entire appetite for any food this evening because of this restaurant and the lingering damage caused by them was not remedied (but I’m not starting a verbal spar with wait staff over $5).

My friend ordered their noodle soup and enjoyed it. There are cameras where we were eating and I hope it will be reviewed to see we did not put the roach in the food. I hope others have a much more pleasant experience here. I will...
