It was just another forlorn Friday morning. Another morning bereft of happiness or stimulation. I murmur to myself about the hopelessness of my mortal presence as I flick through an old Sears catalog before heading to work. I would have predicted today be like any other; an unfortunate and miserable existence I live and breathe with each waking moment. I leave my home and begin driving while wondering if I will ever find a reason to break this habitual rut of going to and from work and hating every moment of being awake. I stop at a red light and I get a call from my employer. They tell me they no longer need me to come in today and I am no longer needed in the future. I sit at the light impassively as cars honk at me. It was as if I was lost in thought without thinking at all. In this moment I am completely apathetic and devoid of all meaning. I am a void. I haphazardly turn at the light and park. I exit my car and enter the nearest building: Sub King. Serendipity. This fortuitous chain of events leads me to the most sensational lunch I've ever had. I go on to eat the best tasting pizza and pasta I have ever had in my life. I was completely enraptured by the delicious wings and french fries. When I arrived back home I returned with something I had never possessed before: an incentive to wake up and leave the house again the next morning. I now love the Sub King more than I know how to say. The food is not only delicious but it is purposeful. Sub King changed me. Thank you for treating me...
Read moreWe stopped in while ferrying a sailboat north. This place is a short walk from the Mechanicville town dock. Its a dive, no question. The decor wasn't what we were there for however. Neither of us had eaten all day. We ordered a stromboli and and an eggplant calzone. They were promised in twenty minutes but came out a bit later than that.
I can forgive just about anything for good food, and this was what the Doctor ordered. Each was the size of a bull walrus - yooge, I tell ya. Hand-stretched crust, plenty of real mozzarella and ricotta, very generous portions of meat and eggplant, as well as two tubs of marinera per. Prices were frankly cheap, and the vittles hit the spot with plenty left for a cold breakfast.
This is a small, family run outfit, so give them a little leeway. If you're coming up the river, check the menu beforehand and call in your order. They have my business any time I'm...
Read moreFive for the food, One for the service... Bam = 3 stars. I order quite often from Sub King. However, they never answer the damn phone. Everytime I call to order pizza, it's hit or miss whether they'll answer. I, more than 50% of the time, have to drive there and order. Luckily, I only live a few minutes away but it's still very frustrating to have to do that because it prolongs the order process. I can't imagine how much business they're forfeiting by ignoring the phone calls! If I didn't like their pizza so much, I'd order elsewhere. Also, I wonder if the owner knows that this is happening. I know If I were the owner, I would be...
