Made a visit to this beautiful park yesterday. I lived in the area 40+ years ago. My Mother and Father made Mechanicville their home from 1974 until they both died in 2002 and 2022. My Father loved that City, his neighbors & friends, and most of all, he loved Tallmadge Park! 🌳💚 He was a member of the Family Day Committee for years and years. They are/were responsible for organizing and putting on the Family Day Gathering & Fireworks held in Tallmadge Park in July. Thousands of people come from all over the Capital Region to attend that event. We lived a block away and until yesterday, I did not ever appreciate this Park as much as I should have!! I had so many wonderful and bittersweet memories come to me while visiting it yesterday. Thank you to the City of Mechanicville and to the Family Day Committee for recognizing my Dad for his dedication to Family Day, with a granite marker they placed in the park for him!! 🙏🙌 It is very much appreciated by my family! As you will see from my pics and videos of Tallmadge Park, there are lots of other very special people from the City who are recognized and memorialized there too. My Dad was also a Vietnam Veteran who spent 20 years in the USAF. The memorial to our veterans and those KIA was very emotional. 😭🫡 I need to inquire with the City to purchase a memorial brick for my Dad as well. 🇺🇸 I hope you enjoy my videos and pics of this very special park. It has a lot of meaning to a lot of people in the City of Mechanicville. It was such a beautiful day yesterday and I’m so glad I took a trip to my old neighborhood and to this special place. I live about 60 miles away now but I will definitely be back in the future!! Thank you to the City/Park employees who keep this park looking so nice!! 👍 🙏 🙌...
Read moreNot much to do, small, and usually flooded in the middle, Tallmadge is the heart of Mechanicville. Family Day is the big event that draws people from across the capital region to enjoy a small selection of typical county fair attractions, a concert, and Mechanicville's nationally famous fireworks. Outside of Family Day, Tallmadge is a quiet, peaceful green space built on what is sadly formerly native wetlands. Though I wish it were still wetlands, Tallmadge is nice too.
Watch out for dog poo! Mechanicville residents do not pick up after their dogs. I've lived many places in the capital region, I don't know that I've lived anywhere that people have such blatant disregard for others in this way. Dog poo absolutely everywhere.
Off-leash dogs are not uncommon. I love dogs- Tallmadge is not the place to let them run off leash. It's dangerous and...
Read moreI'm not originally from the area, I grew up in the desert southwest, & when my boyfriend asked me where I'd like to go on my birthday this past August, I told him "show me something nice around here. I've lived in the Capital Region since March 2012, & no one that I've known for all these years has taken me anyplace that's an attraction in this area. You were born & raised here, this is your neck of the woods, take me somewhere that in your opinion is a nice place to visit in the area". So, for my birthday he took me for a walk in the park to show me how nice, pretty, it was. I was really surprised at how big the park is! The grounds of the entire part were kept beautifully by...
