This is a Portuguese place. The bartender was fairly nice. Decent drink specials. They have a happy hour where the beer is 3 for $5. The thing is it's an 8oz beer. Still 24oz for 5 bucks sounds about right for the area. I called in and ordered a half roast chicken to pick up. I ordered at 7:30. The menu price is $6 so when I ordered that they asked what I wanted on the side and then gave me a choice of rice and beans or rice and veg. I chose the rice and veg believing that those accompanied the chicken as the menu didn't state it was a la carte, although to be fair it didn't state that the chicken included sides either. I just assumed it did due to how they asked when I ordered. When I arrived at 7:40 I expected the order to be ready because they said it would be 10-15 mins on the phone. it wasn't ready until 8:05 and they weren't particularly busy So when it came out to 11.92, I was a bit confused. The waitress then explained that the rice and veg were extra. That miffed me a bit, but I was in a rush and still tipped her about 35%. She said it would be worth it. The chicken was flavorful, but anemic. It was a little bigger than a game hen, and thin. The rice and veg were ok, the broccoli was overcooked and the peas and carrots were undercooked, as though they were thrown in as an afterthought. The meal was worth maybe $8 tops. Certainly not worth nearly $12. All in all, I probably won't beat a path to the door again. That being said, if I'm in the area, I...
Read moreVery awful experience. I WILL NEVER patronize that venue again. The day when I went I was out of the area. But wanted to support some eateries in MTV. My friend stated that she was there years ago n it was good. Well I took her advice, I went. 1. Came to main dining which was full. But I was willing to wait for proper sitting. But the waitress came to me and offered the overflow which was outside at the back of the restaurant near the parking area. 2. I followed her to a very cold area where I was alone (except for the server who was behind me at the counter). The whole time I sat there no one else was seated in this area. Only me! I couldn’t understand it. Anyway ordered lamb which was overpriced cuz when it came to me, was undercooked, tough hard to manage. As a matter of fact was hurting my hand causing great pain. I was struggling until the server came over n ask if I’m alright, I told him No! I was given the opportunity to change my order. So I asked for spareribs. Well that wasn’t much better either, kept putting salt n spice etc to make it palatable. After having such an horrid experience, asked to get it to go. Then settled my bill, left in disgust. My thoughts that I did experience some racism, it appears that they didn’t desire me to be there. I felt uneasy most of the experience. I made a vow never to go there again. The funny thing is each time I pass this restaurant, I shake my head when I remember my horrible experience....
Read moreBeing in NY for the holidays I was looking to try something I hadn't yet so I Yelped and found this place. I read the reviews and decided to give it a chance. I was looking to try this due to not been tried Portuguese food until that moment. The place is unassuming and is visited mostly fit for the locals and the name can be disguising "Barbecue". I had a really gratifying surprise with my decision. The place didn't disappointe at all. Everything in the place was awesome! From the chorizo and the clams to the sopa galega to the Mariscada and Paella Valenciana everything was on point. Now I am sold on Portuguese food like I am with the Spanish food (similar, but...
