This is a phenomenal place to eat. They have authentic Mexican food. I've eaten here many times and have had a great experience every time. Their food is delicious, and the service is the epitome of excellence. I've never had to wait for a table, and the food is prepared quickly and accurately. If you are Hispanic, you'll feel like tia Rosa is cooking in the back for you, and if you aren't, it's as close as you can get to eating actual Mexican food without leaving NY or visiting a Mexican household. Don't be put off if you are not used to eating Mexican food or if you have little ones. The menu has a large variety and can accommodate from picky eaters to the guy looking for food from back home. Parking can be a bit tough, since it is metered street parking, so car pools are recommended if you are meeting friends. Also, if you visit in the summer, be prepared to interact with street vendors, there is usually someone outside of the building trying to sell you something, sometimes it's homemade bread, other times its toys, and I've also been offered shirts for a charity. Don't be discouraged though, the people are friendly and do not harass you...
Read moreThe service is horrible there, they take too long to bring out your food even if it's not busy. I went with my husband and grandma. He ordered 3 tacos, I ordered 1 taco and we got a torta to share, and my grandma a plate of tacos. They brought his tacos 1st, 30mins went by my grandma got her plate, another 20mins went by we got the torta, last 1hr went by and I got my 1 taco! Also the waitress brought our drinks separately, she brought everyone their drink but me, I had to wait 20mins for mine. I don't know if the waitress had it with just me, but I had a HORRIBLE experience there. The food is good, but if you want to wait FOREVER for a taco, not eat together with your companion and eat your food cold, I'd suggest you order...
Read moreLos Portales was one of our favorite pre pandemic restaurants. Having moved from the area, we dropped in when passing through the area. Quite a bit has changed. I had enchiladas with mole, and my partner had chile rellano. The mole and enchiladas were good, but my refried beans and rice sides were lackluster. The rellano was OK, but the cheese was more like feta than queso. Portions were ample, and although I missed the complementary chips and salsa they used to serve as a starter, I didn't really need...
