I honestly don't even know where to start but i'm going to try my best. I first want to tell you I have been in this business for over forty years... And I have been to the establishment but it's been About ten to twelve years ago.. And had a good experience then. I've been living in south florida for thirty eight years. So we walked in tonight at seven pm.. And the hostess said to us: How many in a whisper..? Not a good evening not hello nothing... Our waitress came to the table, And the first thing she said is that we close at eight o'clock.. We ordered cocktails Which was a big mistake.. If there was Any alcohol at all it was minimum. We ordered some food... And honestly it was pitiful... The only thing that was Edible was the soup... I just can't get over the quality of the food That was brought to our table. Our waitress was making great connections with all the regulars that came in... Our food was just dropped off and walked away.. We had to ask for water that was three of us we got two.. I mean this is just simple stuff.. Halfway through this awful meal.. My niece says to me I think they only take cash... So I asked the Waitress and she said talk to the guy behind the bar ( Whoever he is I don't know ) We called him over to the table to discuss the situation. He tells us there's an atm... I told him I have limited money on there and I was expecting to use a credit card.. He said you can write a check but I don't know what to tell you... So this was the attitude from this person. And our waitress that could care less about us... Absolutely, 0 connection was made by anybody in that restaurant to make us feel comfortable. We were so uncomfortable from the beginning.. The only reason I stayed is because I just came from a funeral and i've been traveling all day and I just wanted to have a nice meal.. So we were short about eighteen bucks... Thank god my sister lives here He took all her information and she's going to pay tomorrow. I just don't understand how a restaurant like this exists... I just honestly don't... I'm infuriated about this evening. I'm in the city for less than 24 hours and I chose this restaurant because of the history. I can't even tell you how I feel right now.... Worst experience in my fifty five years of life!!! I have a question for whoever responded to this message: How do you make a regular guest? Let me answer this for you. You make a connection within the first five seconds.. Even if it's a smile. I love the sarcasm from the response that I got.. I too have been around for a long time... I grew up in the city and I have an enormous family... And many friends in the city... Even though I don't live here... I come home quite often... Do you think i'm not talking about this experience that I had last night? My waitress last night called my guests. " you peaple" Do you think that's...
Read moreWe have eaten at this restaurant before, for many years. We moved away to Florida and came back to the falls last week for a celebration of life. My father's family wanted all 12 of us to go there on June 6th. My aunt used to work there and suggested we all go there for a mini reunion. I can tell you the service was ok,not great, not horrible. It was pretty quiet with 2 people at the bar and our party and one other. The food was definitely not as any of us remembered. Three of us got the fried haddock, while the fish was good. The tartar sauce ruined it for all of us. It was hands down the grossest tartar sauce we ever had. It was watery, not creamy,it basically tasted like chopped up pickles and water mixed with cream of tartar. I've never seen tartar sauce like it,nor did anyone else in our party, but it ruined the fish and most of us stopped eating it. My mom ordered spaghetti and meatballs, the sauce was runny and not much flavor and the meatballs were dense and bland. My father who grew up in that restaurant ordered the pizza as it was his favorite place when we lived up there, but he said the pizza sucked, and tastes nothing like it used too. My aunts steak sandwich which was ordered medium rare, but was so overcooked, she couldn't finish it. The best thing about our dinner was the huge side salad the give with each meal. It was fresh, huge and the dressing was tasty. We also liked the bread and butter, but we joked that was good, because Dicamillos makes that and not La-Hacienda. I know the original owner passed and these are the new owners, it's a shame because they clearly are banking on a well known name, but the recipes are not as they were. My aunt who worked there for twenty years was embarrassed that she invited us there, because it was not as she remembered it either. In my opinion, go next door to Michael's, they are better and the food still tastes amazing there after all the years. La Hacienda is definitely not what...
Read moreWe used to go about once or twice a month from St. Catharines, Ontario, just over the border. Sometimes we would stay, but just as often we'd order the glorified salad, chicken wings and a large pizza and take it home. We'd open the box and offer the border guard a slice on our way home. My mom loved the rigatoni and we all loved the meatballs. Even when we had little funds, we could share an order of wings and salad and pizza and 4 people ate well for not much money. Obviously prices have soared, but if the quality is the same, it would be worth it. We went mostly in the late 70s to early 90s. We moved to North of Toronto, making it too far for a quickie trip and now we are in Saskatoon. Here in Saskatoon, the wings are terrible and the pizza is pathetic except for 2 places, both authentic Italian places. Places like Boston Pizza are crazy expensive, over $30 for a large pizza and it is cardboard and terrible. Pizza Hut is so so, but wings everywhere are horrid. I think people here haven't been exposed to authentic food places because people say they are great, but trust me, they are extremely bad. Even places said to be operated by people from Mexico are no good. One mexican/Latin place called EE Burritos is very good with true flavors with owners from down south. I get my corn tortillas there. But they are expensive. They are very nice though. I cannot tell you what I would give for Hacienda food again. How I wish. If you are ever in Toronto and want great Mexican food, very authentic, you need LA Mexicana on Bathurst Street. Very small place, very busy and very good with...
