Gio's Gelato Cafe — Restaurant in City of Port Jervis

I really like the baked goods. The cupcakes are fantastic. The macarons are delicious. We’ve bought a birthday cake here and it was great. The bakery gets 4 stars at least!

I feel compelled to write a review to encourage the lunch café to up its game a little bit. I ordered a special today in the restaurant . It was the grilled peach salad. It’s right at the end of peach season here so I was thinking— if this is a special, the peaches must be bursting with flavor , unfortunately when it came—taste-wise, I could barely tell the peach from the tomato. The tomatoes were also not very good. The dressing was definitely not homemade, overly sweet and generic. The burrata was the same I can buy at ShopRite. It could have been really good in concept. Thankfully the greens were pretty fresh. So the salad was edible. I ate it, but it was not good. The bread it came with was good. The dish was not something I would say I would like to eat again. If this is a special, I kind of expect it to be special. I do think Katery To Go makes better salads and definitely makes better salad dressings. My daughter ordered a sandwich with prosciutto. The prosciutto was off colored, and it had this huge, huge strip of fat that made it unappetizing , so she couldn’t eat it. No one else could either. She ended up taking a few bites and putting it down and it was wasted. The good news is my daughter who ordered the tomato soup and mozzarella sticks was happy. My daughter who ordered the chicken tenders and fries was happy. I enjoyed the zucchini fritters but you would think zucchinis were expensive or rare because there was like seven coin -sized pieces. I read about the owners of this place and I thought that they were going to be putting a lot of effort into the food so I am just disappointed. Every time I go to a restaurant around this area , that’s one more restaurant I won’t be going back to. Everyone has proved that they can fry stuff but what about making food that tastes good and is reasonably good for you ?? That’s better or almost as good as I can make. Fogwood And Fig is awesome food so that is definitely an exception , they are only open weekend. I will definitely be going back for the bakery, but I will not be going back for the lunch. Waitress was busy but capable. Counter staff was polite. The restaurant was packed and has a great following so this is me saying let’s just make the food a little bit better. I see...

THIS WAS THE BEST WEDDING CAKE I’VE EVER TASTED!! No, really. It was. I LOVE desserts, and I’m usually a little disappointed at weddings, when you waited all night to get to the cake, and its. . . dry, or too dense. . This cake. . .oh . .it was the perfect amount of moisture, sweetness and density. The buttercream frosting was to die for . .We had chosen yellow with cannoli filling and chocolate with Bravarian Cream. One was better than the next! We also had pastries (of which I only got a bite of one . .so sad about that) when I talk to my friends and family . .they are still bringing up pastries I didn’t even realize were there, to tell me how delicious they were!! Lol To top it off I had Italian cookies at each table. (I told you I like dessert!! lol) They were light, and airy and so yummy! (I did get to have those . . I had some on the sweetheart table and took them home!!) Gio’s also catered the morning of breakfast at Mountain View Manor, where we were staying. They make their own bagels, and they were still warm when they got there!! They, along with the flavored cream cheeses and muffins, were a hit with both me and the guests staying at the mansion. Did I also mention how nice they were? Everyone I spoke to, by phone or email, was just lovely. I couldn’t have had a better experience...

We ordered 2 different cakes from them and both tasted and looked amazing. The raspberry mousse filling with chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream was a great combination and recently our son's vanilla cake and buttercream with lemon cream filling was amazing. My son just turned one and I ordered a cake in a Winnie the Pooh theme and I was not disappointed. It was more than I expected and was hands down the best birthday cake I ever bought for my money. The decorations and flavor was excellent. The baker really knows what she is doing and you can tell loves what she does. I had so many people asking me where I got the cake. And I happily told them. My only criticism is I wish the list of cake flavors and fillings and icings were available on the website as sometimes it's hard to place an order with other staff members over the phone who may not be well versed in the baking section and certain things are extra which is understandable but not all staff seem to know what costs more sometimes. So be sure to ask. With that said just be sure you talk to the baker when she is in or go into the bakery for more details like that you need to make decisions about the cake you want. I couldn't be happier with what I've ordered from them and plan to do so again for my own...
