The question was, How was Rossi Rosticceria Deli? My first response was, You got to be kidding me ! This place should be on the National Historic Places list. UNBELIEVABLE! If you are hungry. You want food better than your Grandmother made. You need to go and eat here. Say hello to Mr. Rossi, meet his family. I can't think of more to say. You are going to LOVE this place. Restaurant, Deli. It's what Italians live for, FOOD to EAT ! This is a update that I reluctantly am adding. With changing times, so has Rossi's. For efficiencies sake it seems that the menu is fixed and it is what it is. Don't get me wrong, the food and service seems to be excellent. However there is no add ons or custom orders. Only what is on the menu. This is for streamlining the operation as they expand I am thinking. I was told by Victorio, ?,That this will help reduce questions like, "How much do I charge for this? and that such changes prove that it is not cost effective." This is what he said. Maybe the success was from those special things they provided. They will expand, increasing their customer base. Gaining new fans and maybe loosing a few old ones, but hard work and dedication should keep them going for another generation. I was bummed and said I would not be coming back. Maybe I will and I certainly will miss this place my few visits a year. But I wish them all the best. Mr. Rossi has certainly done a great job and his family continues the legacy. I only wish they focused on the food nowadays as much as they focus on the accounting.

When a NYC chef tells you the best sandwich he's ever had was at Rossi's when he was training at the CIA in Hyde Park, you just have to make (lots of) room in your stomach to track it down. We made sure to walk past Rossi's on our morning loop walk across the Walkway over the Hudson and the mid-Hudson Bridge, as Rossi's is near the Poughkeepsie side of the mid-Hudson Bridge. It was not yet open, so we returned after the CIA graduation to enjoy these huge, fabulously stuffed and flavorful sandwiches. Owner and staff were super friendly. You can choose to put the sandwich on a round focaccia, the slightly larger ciabatta, on the sesame semolina for an even larger sub, or on a truly huge focaccia. See composite image for the size of sub, 1/9th of the focacia, and the ciabatta sandwich. We got the Number Four sub and two Smokey Giuseppe sandwiches on focaccia and ciabatta. Absolutely delicious. In fact, the Smokey Giuseppe tasted equally divine when enjoyed hot, as a cold leftover eaten on the road, and reheated in the toaster oven as a picnic dinner for a riverfront concert that evening! Surprisingly, all those layers of thinly sliced and breaded eggplant held together for a neat eating experience. There are so many layers of flavors in the smokey giuseppe: fried eggplant, smoked provolone, mozzarella, ‘nduja (spicy salami spread), smoky eggplant spread, roasted pepper, tomato confit, crispy prosciutto and stuzzichino (spicy spread). And then we got to enjoy the stuffed focaccia, reheated in the oven, the next morning.

My territory for work spans the Northeast. I’ve created a list of various places to eat at within each state while I’m in surveying various markets. One of my food lists is “Best Italian Delis in Each State” compiled from various sources. It’s silly, but it has made states like CT bearable with lists like my “Best Pizzas in CT” list. Rossi Blew Me Away! A necessary visit for any tourist or fellow New Yorker. The young lady gave me the rundown on their sizing: SM is a semolina hero that can feed two people- or one Italian like myself; LG is a four-person portion, served quartered on house-made focaccia. Then you have the list of existing sandwiches featuring various arrangements of sandwich staples on the left, or a build your own monster menu on the right. I was overwhelmed. I panicked. I bought the four person focaccia Muffuletta AND a Prosciutto w/ Fresh Mozzarella hero. My wait: 8 minutes. The food: incredible. The Muffuletta is like an entire antipasti bar between the most beautiful bread. Only con: … no public bathroom … was a tiny bummer after driving a little out of the way to visit. Thank you for giving me a destination to frequent while working in or near Poughkeepsie. And thanks to the dynamic staff for the great guidance and rapid execution.

I am was visiting the Hudson Valley from Northern Virginia and couldn't leave without stopping by Rossi's deli. I was enjoying half of their incredibly delicious Pork and Rabe sandwich at a table outside when one of the owners (I think it was “John” Giovanni) walked up to me, swatting an annoying bee away from my food. We chatted briefly and he went back inside. A few minutes later, he came back out with an ice cold sparkling San Pelligrino Limonata (it was a HOT day) to replace the warm water bottle I was sipping with my food. He then gave me a bag with a fresh hot loaf of olive focaccia and two loaves of ciabatta to take back home to my family. You don't get this kind of hospitality at a typical restaurant. This last stop on my vacation in the Hudson Valley was like a cherry on top of the cake. I felt incredibly honored to get a photo with John and will cherish this visit forever. I can affirm with this review that this deli is truly special and like no other. I will definitely be back again in the near future! If you are in Hudson Valley, please do yourself a favor: stop here to grab a sandwich and say hello to John and the owners! They will appreciate it more than you know.

I wanted to give a shout out to the young man named Owen who was working the cash register. I was asking him about what they are known for, what people who come here a lot order etc. He was very patient and helpful and kind which was all very appreciated! We were here during a Friday afternoon and it was semi crowded. They were able to get us our sandwiches fairly quickly. There are some nice seating areas out on the sidewalk and the place itself was very clean and easy to order/pickup the food. My sister and I each got a sandwich and both of them were incredibly delicious. The meats were very tasty and all veggies were fresh and flavorful, perfectly cooked bread and yummy. The portions are very large, I would order the middle sized sandwich if I were to go back. Overall it was a 5 star experience with the service and the food. The price wasn’t high or low it was what I would expect to pay at a deli like this. Highly recommend!
